Leaving our caravan back home we headed off to Mallacoota VIC. for a month with our boat & family sized tent. We've spent between 2-6 weeks there every year since the early 70's. Keith first went there aged 8, so this was his 60th year in a row.

We always camp at the Foreshore Holiday Park run by the Shire of East Gippsland on an un-powered site relying on gas for lighting, cooking & refrigeration. It's a lot of fun getting back to basics. If you stay a month you get a 20% discount, 5 nights free.

The fishing this year was pretty good with a great variety of species, Black Bream, Silver Trevally, Dusky Flathead, Tailor & Flounder. There were also a fair few just under sized Pinky Snapper around & an unusual catch, a Flying Gurnard.

The highlight was Judy's 75cm Flathead that was returned promptly to the water with no ill effects after a quick photo opportunity.

Mallacoota is a fantastic place to stay for a while, surrounded by Croajingalong National Park. The lakes, beaches & rivers are beautiful. There are also some great drives, bush walks & canoeing locations in the area.

The fishing is good from the surf beaches & from the shores of the lakes & rivers.

One lovely sunny day we took our boat up through the lake system & Genoa River to Gipsy Point. Gipsy Point Lodge has recently opened a delightful Hotel/Restaurant overlooking the river.

Lunch was top notch & well priced.

The weather was great, though typical for Mallacoota, windy at times. Mallacoota is our only regular annual destination & we're booked for another month next year.

Three weeks at home over the school holiday/Easter period & we're off in our caravan for 6 weeks to all of the Mallee-Wimmera National Parks doing nature photography.

As they say, variety is the spice of life.
