Victorian registration - shorter terms available

Victoria has recently introduced optional three and six month registrations for cars with only a minor cost penalty over the 12 month registration. Additionally it seems one is able to renew a registration further than one month out from its expiry date which is very useful for remote area travellers.

One has to register an account on the Vic Roads website (which is testing) but otherwise all looks good... well apart from the $800 annual registration fee - what the hell are they doing with our money!?

Other than convenience I think this is a really good thing as there are a lot of people who live week-to-week and don't/cannot budget as well as they might and, for them, finding $800 in one hit is neigh on impossible - finding $200 is more realistic.

$800 would buy a lot of public transport .

I would suspect this has been introduced in an attempt to address the large numbers of unregistered vehicles on Victorian roads.

Personally, I would suspect that it will add to them, with the first installment paid, and no others, either deliberately or accidentally.

We have had 3 month rego 2 or 3 rys now in W.A, i don't no why you can't just bung what you can into your rego account, just like your electric, gas and council rates.

That would make it easier for some as stated above a lot of people doing it tuff, i no some have not had a wage rise in 5 or 8 yrs.blankstare

Three, six or twelve months available in Qld. The shorter periods attract a small surcharge. I think there is a monthly direct debit option too.

Interesting Mike. Quick to jump on the bandwagon when the law is in your favour but not when regulations are for the safety of the travelling public i.e unsecured LPG bottles.

Odd.
