Biting off more than we should chew?

We are planning our first big trip in our Trakka Torino. We will kick off from Townsville after a wedding and then thought we would make our way to Broome, Perth, and Melbourne before returning to Sydney. We have 8 weeks.

Thank you

Life is short so you do it as you choose .OK You will have a drayload of folk that will bag the crap out of your journey. However my wife and I did all this on harleys and its a piece of cake .if you like a good spot stay! if yer dont well pissoff and move on . Our country is truly wonderful ! You and your loved one just need to do it how you like and stuff everybody else !Cheers from me and her wot have already done this tour .

WRT planning, I applaud your thinking, but be prepared to take a shortcut if you find yourself running "behind" the schedule. I'd be looking at where you could cut a corner or two in case.

That said, however, hope you enjoy the trip, and let us know where you get to along the way.

Welcome to the gang Wetwo, enjoy here and out in the playground.

I am a full time Grey Nomad, very grey and I do it my way not what someone else says to do. I f I want to stay in a spot one night I do, if I want to stay in a spot for weeks, I will, my call. I have a habbit of planning a trip but get to a corner or similar and take a different turn. I can be half way through a plan and get a phone call and I change the plan. That's the way I w..k and it w..ks (can't say those words sorry) well for me. I had a boss all my w..king life and did it their way. Now I am the boss and cos I am solo, do it my way. If my wife was still alive I would share with her but probably we would still do it the way I do.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

P.S. Woody works though :) On ya Woody mate.

Of course it is doable  ...  Just a matter of planning.

I had a look at the  Trakka Torino & it looks like a beauty.

A quick google exercise shows that the trip using the main highway is 10341 km.  That's only 184 per day.  Driving at 100 & allowing for stops you'll do that in just 2 hours.   Double the daily distance and that can be covered before lunch.

A bit of planning to allow for longer than overnight stays & perhaps a few days in major spots will still give you doable daily Kms.

Lots of us have ample time so are used to dawdling along & taking the less travelled roads & that's fine but many others are less time rich and do it differently. eg. A relo of mine just did the trip Darwin to Brissy in 3 days to meet some business obligations.

I think that you will enjoy a 'Taste Of the West' & accumulate a long list of places to perhaps revisit one day, just like we did on a 35 day (Taste of) tour of Western Europe.

Go for it.  It will be enjoyable especially in that great unit.

edit ... I haven't checked my figures .. I'm sure someone will tell us if I went wrong!

Gday...

Go for it ... you will drive through many fantastic places.

However, that is a long way for 8 weeks .... at least 200Km per day - every day to get through it in 8 weeks.

You will see a lot of black road ... I reckon you might miss quite a lot of the interesting, inviting places of this exciting land.

And let me tell you - it is a LOOOOOOOOONG way down that Western coastline - beautiful though!

Did it in three months the first time. This time - well six years now - and still travelling - and STILL haven't seen everything!

As the other guys have said, you will want to have two nights (at least) in some places, - say Kununurra - arrive one day, set up camp, go and have a look around town, if early enough drive out to Lake Argyle - amazing place!

Next day - sightseeing in the area. Leave next day, early enough to arrive at next stop, pre plan where you ae going to stop - don't drive at night - kangaroos love the roads.

Work out from your place of departure to your last stop - see how many days two nights in a place, towns especially, (cos you will need to stock up) -adds up to -
And remember - it is about as far across from East to West as it is from North to South, or visa versa.

My theory on limited time to travel, is, to see as much as I can in the time I have, but enjoy some quiet time, sitting watching sunsets, or sunrises - next to a river - as well as sightseeing, but don't rush it take it in - New Norcia is an amazing little town in WA - could spend a whole day there, and still go back and find you missed something.

Enjoy your travels - and may it be the start of many, many more.
