I am getting my ATM changed and the engineer has requested I get a blank Compliance plate which I think I need to get updated and he will do the paper work.
Does it need to be engraved or can you use a permanent marker?
Stamped, embossed or engraved as the plate is supposed to be readable after a fire up to a certain magnitude. I am therefore assuming these new plastic stickers are fireproof to the same extent.

How about scratched on - badly - by hand? If nothing else it looks very unprofessional.

Ditto with my van plate too. Not sure at what point the scratched details were added (at the end of the production line or just before registration).
The engineer will supply a new compliance plate and he will engrave it. He also will supply a certificate to keep inside the van. Get it laminated for longevity.
