Soon we will be retiring our old Pajero 4x4 and looking at new to us Isuzu or Ford Ranger Ute styles Diesel. Some are automatic but I guess no low ratio which we use rarely So the question is fuel consumption and suitability for towing. our van is a lightweight fully loaded 1500kg so no issue there, ball weight 170. I do enjoy manual so will probably go that way, but if the right one comes along and its auto ?. Any one towing with either got an opinion. Thanks Bru
go the auto you wont be sorry. with that weight you wont even know its there. invest in a scanguage to keep an eye on auto temps but at 1500 kg temps wont be an issue
With 1500 weight just stick it in D and let it do it's thing. There will be no issues with an auto compared to a manual.
The manual D-max (2010) I had, had issues with the dual mass flywheel shuddering on take off had from new done under warranty at 5000 kms was shuddering again within 1000kms didn't bother after that and promised myself auto next time .
Auto. These days they are much stronger and tow better than a manual. They also have a better resale. Cannot give away a used manual. Note that in the 2017 plate clearance sales, many of the vehicles are manual. If you really want a manual you"ll get a great deal on a manual Ranger.
I have a Ranger auto that will kick back up & down a steep hill. However coming into Woolongong with van from Sydney direction, I had to lock the auto and travel in the 40kph truck lane.
