I didn't want to pay a fortune to air condition my van as I do little summer camping.
I thought about a portable unit, but they were all odd sizes. I was in Joyce Mayne a couple of weeks ago & they had an air conditioner sale. There was the perfect sized unit to go under the table. $649 down to $379.
I made up a new mount for the table so the unit could go under. It's a 2.9 kw unit. It brings the temp down to 23 degrees, on a humid 35 degree day, in around 30 minutes. 15 ft van.
i can remove it in winter & replace it with a small oil heater I've got, (no noise)
Only drama will be if it fails, I'd have to find a unit the same size.
That looks more like an evaporative cooler than an air conditioner. Where is the outdoor condenser?
Cheers, Dalton
It is a portable room air conditioner.
The condensor is in the back of the unit. Air from inside the van is blown through the condenser & exits through the duct on the back.
The air exiting the condensor seems to be a lot hotter than any air I've felt exiting a "normal" air con unit.
It sounds inefficient, using the air inside the van to cool the condenser, as this has to be replaced by hot air from outside. Or is this inefficiency negated, by the fact it's cool air going through the condenser ?????
I don't think I would by one to run in a house, to my thinking it would have to be inefficient compared to other systems.
