Storm Cell

Hi All

Just going to tell you what happened to me last November. A storm cell hit our town with 107 kilometre hour winds, hail and rain causing lots of damage all over town and completely destroyed my Stormcovers Caravan cover, the Bureau of Meteorology said if it had been a cyclone it would have been a category 4. After contacting the makers of the cover to buy a new one to replaced the damage one they were shocked to hear it had happened, they told me in ten years of making them they had nothing like this happen before. After a few phone calls/ emails and discussions why it happened it was nothing to do with the cover itself it was just the power of the storm cell. Anyway the company came back to me with the replacement price the same as 4 years ago when I first bought it, so that was a good saving and then they gave me freebies like wheel covers and bits and pieces, this made me one happy camper. Great to see a company go out of there way to keep you happy. 10 out 10 from me.

Away the insurance company told me because I hadnt told them the cover was on the caravan they will not pay to replace it, then they told me if the caravan had been damage without the cover they would have paid to fix it ?? Not with CIL anymore.

I have no affiliation with the companies named above.

OK Rant over back to being one happy camper.

CIL..... mmmm having a flashback!! A few years ago we had a wheel bearing fail on a Coromal van. Repair bill came to $900 odd. They refused to pay even though they pay for damage resulting from a failed bearing normally. (Brakes and drums and stub axle were damaged). You see, in the course of the phone call I admitted that I had not serviced the wheel bearings. I tried to explain that I hadnt had the van for 12 months yet, and, the previous owner (a mechanic mate of mine) had replaced the bearings just before he sold it to me. Did not matter. There was their loophole.furious
If they had paid the claim we would have stayed with them. We now have a very expensive van and they would have got back their money twice over in the first premium for the new one!
So glad you had a great experience with the caravan cover company.

The fact that your "Stormcover" cover lasted four years is impressive - I've had two Camec ones that didn't last two years - Ranbuilt carport now - It will outlast the van.

It was a great outcome with the supplier.

I don't know why you are sour with CIL. The same thing applies with most insurance companies. Anything you add to the van after purchase needs to be listed on your policy if you wanted coverage on it. Make sure it is listed on your current policy.

 Hi PeterD

I am not sour with CIL have paid premium for 7 years without hesitation, just when this happened and the renewal came at the same time I looked around at other companys to find things like contents, covers and annexe were stander cover in there policys , plus $200 cheaper. So then I changed companys and spent $305 with new company to get full roadside assistance for car and caravan Australia wide, so by changing companies and spending $105 more I get full cover and roadside assistance. Then when I received the policy that tells me what I am not insured for and that is easy to understand than a policy telling you what you are insured for. Plus when the renewal came from the old insurance company they wanted $40 more to insure the Stomercover for the caravan so if they had replaced the cover on my caravan I would still be with them. That there loss because I am a number and they have a beancounter!!!
