Has anyone been over the Tanami track from Alice Springs to Halls Creek recently? I am currently thinking of travelling to Broome after Alice Springs in May this year. I am towing a 19.6 Paramount Vogue (not an off roader). Is there any fueling stops and is the road okay to travel on?

Thanks Possum3 I will check out the website and contact the local police closer to the time. I was trying to save a few thousand clicks by tacking the track.

Possum hits the nail right on the point of the melon.

The ONLY way to know the actual conditions of any 'remote/outback' road is from the local authorities ... usually the local constabulary ... and that is best made when you get within a day of your travel time on that road. In this instance, when you get to The Alice. 

Then you can make your decision on whether to traverse the Tanami or not.

Here is the latest report on its condition, it could take a bit of time before it is opened and suitable for a 'black-top' van -

The Tanami can be pretty ordinary because of some of the mining traffic it carries and there are some long stretches between fuel.
Another alternative to consider would be the Gary Junction Road that goes west to Marble Bar. There will be some corrugated bits, especially at the eastern end and around some of the communities, but it is almost certainly better than the Tanami road. And there is much more fuel available along the way.

EDIT. 2 permits are required, but both free and easily obtained. And it is a much nicer drive from a scenery point of view, IMHO.
