Happy Australia Day closed after six posts?
Permalink Closed

I read all posts and was not offended by any, in fact I thought it was apt for the forum and day.  Could someone with some nous please explain why it was closed.  I think this a fair request as none was given on the post itself for closing it.

I did not see the post BUT on this site anything mildly interesting is shut down by admins.

Lots of good threads on Facebook promoting harmony and being Australian to EVERYONE !!

Sad, very sad. Hopefully someone would care to explain what's going on? Will our "Merry Christmas" messaging be disallowed in future?

One of the replies to that post has also been removed if I remember correctly.

Moderating on any forum is an extremely difficult job at times.

It is almost impossible to please everyone all of the time and we are all offended by different things at different levels.

Even just a simple thing like the typed word may seem offensive when as a reader we can't see expressions like we may in the spoken word.

I only viewed this topic once after my contribution and I noted that there was a post denegrating the Australian Flag.

I would guess that this post may have been a contributing factor or maybe the comment encouraged an argument and probably would have "ended in tears"

I have been a moderator on other forums and quite often it is not general practice that any moderator is to come on an begin to explain their actions. Remember, we can't please all of the people all of the time. There must have been an infringement of site rules.

We, as members, should not question moderation.

This is a pretty good forum generally and we are lucky to be allowed the freedom to express our views mostly without argument. Unfortunately, the line is crossed at times.

Hi All,
Unfortunately, there were some posts on that thread which had become personal and very unpleasant. After I removed these, another couple of posts appeared which were also in violation of our forum rules regarding politics and personal attacks.  I deleted those posts and closed the thread to avoid further issues.
Just a reminder to please avoid politics and personal attacks on our forum.  Unfortunately, history teaches us that political posts always end with bad feelings. If anyone has any problems with this or any anything else, please send me a PM. Thanks for your understanding.
