In my workplace back in 2008 we had 2 guys bragging about how they had their super set up in high risk mode making huge gains.
After they lost almost everything in the GFC they looked very envious when I retired in 2010 after just turning 60 years of age on a conservative plan.
How sweet it tasted!!

Sure is.
One of my guys was heavily into negative gearing of low cost residential rental properties in the late 80's.
He now is extremely wealthy & uses the company super (that many of us live on .. quite comfortably) to fund a succession of cruises 'just to get rid of it'.
More evidence. A lot of GNs probs never even heard of Bitcoin.
As in all things ... Just Google "Bit Coin what is it"
eg
Bitcoin is a form of digital currency, created and held electronically. No one controls it.Bitcoins aren't printed, like dollars or euros they're produced by people, and increasingly businesses, running computers all around the world, using software that solves mathematical problems. It's the first example of a .....
Just recently a member of this forum was telling how smart he was investing in Bitcoin and how it was the investment for the futher hope he still has a futher .
Back in the 1980's my wife and two toddlers were poor and unemployed. I told a wealthy neighbour I bought a tattslotto ticket for $2.
She said "you could have bought a loaf of bread and a litre of milk with that for your family"
She was right. Best not to dream of what we dont have but revel in what we've got.

One day a merchant came to the village to buy these monkeys!
He announced that he will buy the monkeys @ $100 each.
The villagers thought that this man is mad.??
They thought how can somebody buy stray monkeys at $100 each???
Still, some people caught some monkeys and gave it to this merchant and he gave $100 for each monkey.??
This news spread like wildfire and people caught monkeys and sold it to the merchant.??
After a few days, the merchant announced that he will buy monkeys @ $200 each.
The lazy villagers also ran around to catch the remaining monkeys!
They sold the remaining monkeys @ $200 each.??
Then the merchant announced that he will buy monkeys @ $500 each!
The villagers start to lose sleep! ... They caught six or seven monkeys, which was all that was left and got $500 each.
The villagers were waiting anxiously for the next announcement.??
Then the merchant announced that he is going home for a week. And when he returns, he will buy monkeys @ $1000 each!
He asked his employee to take care of the monkeys he bought. He was alone taking care of all the monkeys in a cage.
The merchant went home.
The villagers were very sad as there were no more monkeys left for them to sell it at $1000 each.
Then the employee told them that he will sell some monkeys @ $700 each secretly.
This news spread like fire. Since the merchant buys monkey @ $1000 each, there is a $300 profit for each monkey.
The next day, villagers made a queue near the monkey cage.
The employee sold all the monkeys at $700 each. The rich bought monkeys in big lots. The poor borrowed money from money lenders and also bought monkeys!
The villagers took care of their monkeys & waited for the merchant to return.
But nobody came! ... Then they ran to the employee...
But he has already left too !
The villagers then realised that they have bought the useless stray monkeys @ $700 each and unable to sell them!
The Bitcoin will be the next monkey business
It will make a lot of people bankrupt and a few people filthy rich in this monkey business.
That's how it will work.......................... ....!!!
Me too. I have only made 256%, at current rates, on one of the Alt-coins. The latest crash seems to have established the low point in the funny money market.

Semi-permanent state of being Recreationally Outraged as a defence against boredom during lockdown.
In November I invested $2000 into both Ethereum and Ripple.
I have taken $2000 profit out so now it's what is now known as a free carry.
Ripple (xrp) is hovering around $2 at the moment after a big drop a week or so ago and Ethereum (eth) is sitting around $1500.
I invested through Aussie brokers in AU dollars and there was no problem with the withdrawal the money was in my bank account the next day.
Currently Ethereum is $1362. and Ripple is at $1.81.
US$. Once you take your initial investment out and put it back under the mattress, the rise and fall and exchanging into one or the other, is just a game.

The prices I quoted were Aud.
Back under the mattress - you probably would sleep a bit better.
Cheers, John.
