Happy New Year to all
Im thinking of trip Perth Darwin via Gibb River Road, not sure what 4x4 to get, thinking of Hilux dual cab, with roof top tent, will be just me,not sure if to go off road camper or roof top, just after some comments, trying to keep fuel costs down, other than Hilux maybe Prado? Could any one please advise,if roof top tent will be living out of back of vehicle, any commenys or gen info would be appreciated, many thanks in advance
It all depends on the duration of the trip and if you want to do day trips from a base.
Have done similar trips both ways it comes down to personal preferences and comforts.
Hilux dual cab (diesel) will be suitable for either, never been a fan of petrol in 4x4.

Petrol not available at all service stops along the Gibb, not sure whether it is Imiji or Barnett River Roadhouse, but one definitely does not sell petrol, so bear that in mind. Diesel is the way to go, unless you have long range fuel tanks

Imiji if I remember rightly diesel only.
Heard they closed the doors, you'd have to do your homework.
Last time went that way was '08 fuel at Kalumburu was ONLY $3.45/L.
We carry 340/L so didn't need any.

Imiji is open again. Yes you are right, it was Imiji that sells diesel only.
