I have been stalking for awhile and we have just made the big decision and have bought a 2011 Winnebago Eyre. We are picking it from the owner on Wednesday. I need some advice.
1. It is registered in NSW until October 2018, we are renting our apartment out in September. Can we move the rego to another state - eg. SA then? If so, what are the pros and cons of doing it now versus later?
2. It looks like the Avida Club has a good roadside assist program, any thoughts?
3. As it is a long weekend, getting insurance quotes is problematic, could I get a 14 day cover note from NRMA in the meantime.
4. We live in Pyrmont (inner city Sydney), we will be storing it at a friend'S place in the Hunter but wanted to occasionally keep it overnight near us. Trying to figure what the options are. I think we can park it on the street in Leichhardt or Marrickville according to their website but obviously security is an issue. Does anyone know about secure parking options - paid or unpaid.
My experience with WRC - they will call local RAC/NRMA - total waste of money in outback they tell you to call Avida Service in Sydney - I wouldn't recommend joining it. Get coverage for motorised unit with local RAC/NRMA/CIC.
Brother in Law wanted to park his fully registered (NSW) A Van in Marrickville on the street, notified by Council to remove within 24 Hrs or Penalty/Infringement notice would be issued.
Suggest you contact Storage Company and get quote for casual storage.

The reason for not been able to leave a motorhome park in the street , There is a local by law on the time limit a truck can park in local government areas , There may be a size limit and some motorhome may be exempt .
I've just set up a 2 week cover note with Apia with no obligation and will check Ken Tame and CIL Tuesday as they are closed today. Just concerned about the clause in the Ken Tame policy: Use by a Non Member of CMCA being driven by you, or any other person: a. where you are no longer a current financial member of CMCA, or b. where the vehicle is loaned to a non financial member of CMCA. We will not however refuse a claim for theft of or accidental physical loss or physical damage to the vehicle, caravan or trailer, towing costs as a result of an accident, general average costs during sea transportation, windscreen or window breakage and legal liability for property damage only where a. and b. above apply

It's not local law, it is clause 200 of the Australian Road Rules. Most of the states would have adopted this as part of their road rules. This also applies to your caravans as well if they are over 7.5 meters point to point.
200 Stopping on roads heavy and long vehicles (1) The driver of a heavy vehicle, or long vehicle, must not stop on a length of road that is not in a built-up area, except on the shoulder of the road. Offence provision. Note Built-up area is defined in the dictionary, and shoulder is defined in rule 12. (2) The driver of a heavy vehicle, or long vehicle, must not stop on a length of road in a built-up area for longer than 1 hour, unless the driver is permitted to stop on the length of road for longer than 1 hour by information on or with a traffic control device, or under subrule (2A) or another law of this jurisdiction. Offence provision. Note Traffic control device and with are defined in the dictionary. (2A) The driver of a heavy vehicle, or long vehicle, other than a bus, is permitted to stop on a length of road in a built up area for longer than 1 hour if, throughout the period when the vehicle is stopped on the length of road, the driver is engaged in dropping off, or picking up, goods. (3) In this rule: heavy vehicle means a vehicle with a GVM of 4.5 tonnes or more. long vehicle means a vehicle that, together with any load or projection, is 7.5 metres long, or longer. road does not include a road-related area, but includes any shoulder of the road.

We are insured with KT, I checked that clause out with the CEO of KT and from memory, your vehicle is covered by their insurance but if a non member eg your son drives your vehicle he does not get CMCA member benefits, you would need check these out in the policy document. Suggest you call KT to check out yourself.
I have been insured with KT since I purchased my motorhome in 2015. At the time they were cheaper than CIL and have a $200 excess ,CIL is $500. CIL do not offer roadside assist KT does. I had the need to use the roadside assist during last year and was sorted very professionally. I also had need to make a claim for some rear bodywork again the service was excellent. Expecting a hefty increase this year however the increase was very fair. Checked CIL again there was not much difference in annual premium but CIL still do not offer roadside assist and still have $500 excess. I will renew with KT.

I purchased the insurance and RSA from KT today. Very helpful and professional. THe clause about non-CMCA members is almost irrelevant if you take out their Roadside Assist for $185 pa. With the RSA, the premium was a few hundred less than APIA without RSA.
