Where to go over the holidays

I have searched Wikicamps and failed to find a suitable spot to stay for perhaps a week.

Requirements:

1. dog friendly

2. Near water.   Easy access from van.  ie no steep riverbanks though snake infested long grass.

3. Must be safe for swimming.  or really just sitting on the edge in the water.   Fairly shallow,  sand not mud

4. Easy access for 3.1mtr high MH  into site. A few potholes etc are not a problem

5. Free of trees.  Need solar.

6. A few hours in any direction from Albury.  ie along, Murray, Murrumbidgee or tributaries.

Do not need facilities, toilets. dump points, water, picnic tables, fire places, barbeques or bins (will take out my rubbish with me)

Am not worried about crowded places..  not too keen on being isolated.   Like a few people in the vicinity.

I know, its a bit like asking for utopia.  Its funny, when we were kids,  we used to frequent such places. I know they are there.  Blowed if I can find them now.

Someone, somewhere must know a spot.

Tumbarumba, there was an article on here a while ago about it. They also have a rodeo on January 1st.

Yes, there is Greens Lake. Water muddy though.   Though the GN may make up for it.

Indi Bridge on the Upper Murray. We were there 6 weeks ago. Ticks most of your boxes if not all of them.

It's about 12kms East of Corryong VIC. Site 173 in the Camps 6 book. 4kms south of Towong Upper, 16kms south of Towong. From Corryong head east towards Khancoban & turn right after a few kms. All bitumen access to a gate into the reserve which is flat & quite

large. Trout fishing in the river or just lay in the babbling Murray & relax. Much better than jet skis, speed boats & dust at Greens Lake.

It looks like it might be called Towong Flat Camp in Wiki.. Sounds ideal.... apart from local snake warning.. who may have vested interest

Zanetti's Beach. Down near Yarrawonga/Mulwala. Used to frequent. But do not have good memories. Tracks around river easy to get lost, unless you know where you are going. But, a good possibility. Thank you for reminding me.

We stayed 3 nights at Burrowye after Indi Bridge, the river is shallow. Lovely spot but don't expect phone or internet coverage even with a Telstra 4G mobile.

There are about a dozen reserves to camp in along the Upper Murray River road. We did three of them Towong & Jingellic on the NSW side & Burrowye VIC side of the river.

Have a look at our postings in the Travel Blogs section of the forum.

There is Neils Flat, can be a bit sandy, best to turn right as you go in.

Also Clarke Reserve,go through the gate and down the hill, there is a loop road around the camp area.If you are worried about height.,go anti clockwise, plenty of sites to checkout. Then you can turn around and go back the way you came,as there is a couple of lower trees that might be a problem for a tall vehicle

They look really beautiful. Are they free camps or are they State Forest and or National Parks? Do they get overrun with ferals or remain peaceful?

I recon rocky lizard (John) has the best idea msq

Greens Lake, for the companionship of other Grey Nomads

Another alternative is the Nyah Recreation Ground, at the trotting Club, a donation site, but it is about 400 kilometres from Albury

I was there in early January this year (2017), apart from two semi permanent, and about five travellers vehicles, the place was empty, with no families

Below is a link to the recommendation from this forum

http://thegreynomads.activeboard.com/t61140536/nyah-recreation-reserve-nyah-vic/

Also a bit of a mud map, on how to get there from Albury
