Ezi Hitch

Has anyone had an ezi hitch fitted to their van. Any feedback is appreciated . A further query is did you change your towbar assembly as most are rated for 3.5 tonne and the hitch is rated at 5 tonne.

I used one when I was using Tow-ball connections - I changed over to Treg Hitch and now use DO35 coupling - I consider tow ball only suitable for box trailer.

Please explain yourself. What I understand by Ezi Hitch is their Couple Mate which has not weight ratings on their web site.

The 5 tonne rating means little, The hitch rating just has to be greater than the trailer total weight. The limiting factor in the maximum size trailer you can tow is the tow bar rating in this case. Also I doubt if you can get a tow bar for your tug with a greater capacity.

From what I read on regulations for towbars they have to actually have a safety factor of 1.5 times the actual weight limit  stated . (ie) 3.5 tonne max , safety factor means the actual towbar has to be able to take 5 tonne +  b4 it fails .

I dont know if that factor applies to the actual ball as well ??

Would having a 5 tonne rated hitch be a bad thing then or good ?

I see it as neutral. You mostly see 3,500 kg balls in the shops. Most people purchase these even though there are 2,500 balls around. That is a similar situation for those towing their box trailers and smaller caravans. You seem to be getting too concerned with the situation. You have a hitch and tow bar that are both big enough to tow your van, just get over it, stop worrying.

This is typical of a lot of responses on this forum , what I actually asked was there " anyone that had one of these fitted " as I was considering one, not for the weight but for the way it works . I didn't ask anyone to critique my choice .

Yes we have one and love it . Ours came with the 4t tow upgrade from Lovelles . Itās rated as 4t but I believe itās exactly the same as the 5t one Hitch Esy make . Itās very easy to hook on and off much easier than a Mchitch auto coupling which we had previously .
