WOW!!! How is this for a Van Insurance

Our policy is with QBE.   I hope the following info is simple enough for you to follow...

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Our disbeliefInsurance policy for our 2008 Coromal Van is for ... Caravan $34,000   Annex / Awning  $3500 and General Contents $2000.

Equating to a total of  $39,500. Possibly somewhere around the current resale value.

Our premium for next 12 months was $633.12. that is  $1.20 less than last years fee.

The policy covers... if needed... Accommodation .... transport of van back to home base .... and transport costs for the two of us.

Ok... having said that I enquired for a lower fee and I advised QBE that we would not be using the van again until April 2017.

NOW THE GOOD PART.

Given the fact that we will have the van parked AT HOME FOR THOSE MONTHS ... our premium has been reduced from...

 $612.12 down to $469.60... A SAVING OF  $163.52.

Needless to say....I paid the account on the spot.

QBE, will allow a maximum of  6 month of proof of non use and therefore one would be entitled to a huge discount off the premium.

(However if we decided to use the van in the 4 month period we must advise QBE...  ( Paper work is in the mail)

All theses years that we have had the van and with the van not being used for a number of months, under this system it has cost us money$$$$.

Anyway just thought I would share these FACTS with you so you may follow up re your own caravan policy.

Oh Yes!!! we have the ultimate RACQ cover which covers Accommation, transport and other out of pocket expenses.

RACQ is slightly better deal re breakdown than the QBE.

By the way, I rang C.I.L. and gave them the same values as mentioned above and their quote was..

WAIT FOR IT.

$992.60.

Thought that this deal was worth sharing.

So there you have it.... any Questions please P.M me.

Jay&Dee

I also have QBE insurance , Better still I made a claim on the phone they gave me a claim number told me to go to a repairer of my choice , When I went to the repairer he took some photos of the damage and sent them a quote , I no time the repair rang and told claim approved and drop the caravan in for repair , And that's the real test of the insurer .

Maybe something has happened in the caravan insuring business - my caravan insurance with YOUI dropped from About $430 to about $280 earlier this year for no reason at all. Like you I quickly paid.

Regards

More evidence that CIL are steadily pricing themselves out of the market.

We have QBE insurance too. Our van is idle during school holidays so the premium is set accordingly. It's great.

I also have QBE van insurance with an agreed value of $35000 and a premium of $386.21, we have in the past used both NRMA and GIO but their quotes went nowhere near the one from QBE. I shop around the insurance companies each year.

Just as a point of interest I recently shopped around for home contents insurance and found that GIO was considerably cheaper than QBE and in the case of both the caravan and home contents the offering for so called loyalty and multiple policy discounts did not beat the price paid.
