Single Burner Butane BBQ Stove

Hi,

I am having a problem getting a frying pan hot using propane gas. I was wondering if cooking with Butane Gas would give a higher temperature ?

Heating performance depends more on burner capacity & wind protection than the type of gas used I think? confuse.gif

If you Google propane/butane you will find the flame temperature of both gases is identical. Desert Dweller is on the money.

Good Luck.

Just ensure your gas canisters are the approved CRV type on single burner stoves - There are still some "illegal" older types out there.

Going from memory, so this is certainly not gospel

I read that some of the accidents with the old type single burner stoves, was because people were using large frypans/woks

This allowed the heat from the flame to be directed to the canister

I use my single burner portable stove, to make a cuppa, when I stop for (about 30 minutes)

This saves me unlocking the gas cylinder door, and turning on the gas

I also find that, the single burner portable stove, will heat a kettle of water, faster than my main gas stove

Are you using a large heavy frypan

Almost, but you will get a smaller amount of calorific value the more altitude and cold you get to using pure butane. All things with lpg depend on jetting and the larger the jet, the more air required; so get a stove with larger burners.

But this is against the objectives of the tiny throw away bottles that will be used a lot quicker with a large burner. These stoves are set for economy not greater heat. Greater heat with a throw away stove works. But it is the owner that gets thrown, all to often.smile
