Mataranka vs Bitter Springs

Is Mataranka Cabins and Camping the same as Bitter Springs Cabins and Camping? Looking for pricing on either site gives same price list but both are listed separately. http://northernterritory.com/katherine-and-surrounds/accommodation/bitter-springs-cabins-and-camping

No they are different places. We stayed at Bitter Springs, you can walk to the springs which is like a natural creek area. Mataranka is almost like a swimming pool and a lot busier than Bitter Springs. This was about 3 years ago.

Bitter Springs is the nicer of the two IMHO. I stayed at the caravan park that is within easy walking distance. Just watch out for the odd croc that seems to wander in after heavy rain and flooding. LOL. Rangers get rid of them pretty quickly.

Funny thing we found is .Most walk up to Mataranka .. We booked a head into Bitter . They said our motorhome was too big . So we went to Mataranka . The meals and entertainment at the hotel was worth the price !! US navy was there too ..

Mataranka is our pick, lot cleaner and the water was slightly warmer.
Bitter Springs is probably more naturaly, but was not as easy to get in or out of.

We stayed at Bitter Springs last year and had a lovely , very large unpowered site towards the back near the Roper Creek . A pleasant walk to the springs . The amenities were a bit of a walk away but not a problem . We drove into Mataranka and had a drink at the restaraurant after wandering around the springs there . From what I could see the Mataranka caravan park looked ok but we loved the bush camp atmosphere of the Bitter Springs camp . Can be quite crowded in the powered area but what caravan park isnt during peak tourist season .

I actually stayed in 1990 but I could not remember what park we stayed at. I can remember there being two sites. I'm now sure it was Bitter Springs that we stayed at.
