Telstra 'fesses up...

Gday...

So, all you Telstra NBN customers - get ya oar in the water before their generosity (or pot of money) runs out.

Interesting that now at least ONE of the NBN retailers is 'fessing up to what the community has been bleating about for ages. no

Wonder who will follow??

We've had a permanent reduction of Monthly of 25% for 6 months now.
Plus future "speed" of 100 for cost of 25.5. WHEN\IF.. it ever eventuates.

Which won't be until Copper is replaced to home Yeaaaaa. (in their dreams hey)

DON'T speak to the normal operator, they can do nothing.

Ask for an "escalation". then go to complaints. and wait for them to contact you.

It's Then LOGGED and they HAVE to do something.

Dial 1800-834-273 and follow the steps.

Have "OOCLA Speed Test" loaded first with a couple reading.
to have something to show them.
They will stop start Go through cycle.
Then they'll escalate... Ask for if they don't.

And ALWAYS speak with a smile on your face.
it gets you a LOT further up the ladder.

I have my own agent with his ref no to contact on anything.
and THEY have the shout to get things done.

Would you believe his work name is J.C. (Don't say a word)

I pay for 25.5 (fastest in this area.) 4km's away they have genuine 96 on OOCLA. Grrr.
The escalation to 100 took me from 19.3-4.6 to 19.4 - 10.2.
When it started we were getting 24.6\24.7 but not for long. Drops to 13\14 at times.

At 25 I couldn't Officially complain about 19. THAT is within spec's.
But now I'm registered as on 100.
Look out. 19+ - 10+ is waaaay below limits.
I'll have 50% reduction or more after next call.

It's ACTUALLY slower than the ADSL2+ 7 to 8 we had prior to.
It's Slooooow as. Searching.

Ok, this may be a dumb question but, my 77 year old brain box aint what it used to be so here goes.
Can anybody tell me if it is possible for the individual to measure his/her internet speed. If yes can you tell me how to do it in kindergarten language? I live permanently in a caravan park, and expect the NBN node to be at least a kilometer away.

Gday...

It is definitely a confused, frustrating thing these days cry

This site is one of the 'tests' you can use to check the internet speeds you are experiencing.

Thanks for that Rocky, I don't have the NBN as yet but, am getting 6.5 / 6.9 MBPS on old copper that was installed in 1965. Because my computer is for fun and family contact etc, I am quite happy.

Looks like my decision to postpone connection to NBN until the last possible moment was a good one.

NBN ( the HFC variation) has been available here for 3 or 4 mths. & now all the resellers have stopped ringing me with their bull**** opening that I 'have to change to NBN of my internet connection & home phone will be disconnected'.  The callers don't seem to know that we have 18 mths. before they can cut us off.

Anyway I'll stick with my Telstra Fast Broadband with a speed boost, that delivers a constant 115Mbps down.  We use the underground co-axial cable that was put in for Cable TV all those years ago.

As I've said so many times before, Turnbull's multi technology mix el cheapo solution is a crock of **** as all with just a smidgen of technical knowledge knew when it was first mooted.  Where are all the 'experts' now, who were getting media attention supporting the Turnbull approach.   I suppose that they are now beating up the equally flawed 'Mobile' solution ' ie. 'before long we won't need NBN. We can just use (whatever version of) Mobile data' ... just another crock.  In our lifetime anyway.

In addition the sooo efficient Private Enterprise based roll out has been an unmitigated disaster.   But a lot of mates got rich in the process.  Just bring in another overseas (reject) CEO & they will fix it!! Ha ha ha.

Back to the OP (or one of the earlier replies)....  just google Speed Test & take your pick.  I use  the commonly favoured Ookla test.  Have downloaded their app. but don't use it as it is just as easy to go via my browser.

I say good on Telstra for reacting quickly with their offer.

Pity that the Govt. hasn't faced up & reduced the access fees to Resellers so that they could offer & deliver faster speeds at a reasonable cost.  It is a PUblic infrastructure afrer all.

ps ...  Of course the experts who preach that we don't need the fast data speeds have fallen silent too.  Perhaps they are having access issues with their slooow NBN connection.

115 for Telstra ADSL2+ ???

That is service I I had at 4,3km Line of sight from Rural centre.)

On Telstra. ADSL2+ I maxed out at t'ween 7.2 and 8.4 on average,

It'd be nice to see an OOCLA reading on that line (115mbps) please.

That's way over NBN allocated. According to them.

Our NODE is at end of our Drive. 80 yds away. Yeppoon is 4.3km's distance.

But we semi Rural  40 + km Eagle flight, from Rocky central.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

This is official posting on ADSL and CABLE speeds from Telstra pages.

"""Network speed can vary for a number of reasons

Technology .....Maximum Download Speeds .......Maximum Upload Speeds
ADSL............. Up to 8Mbps............................ Up to 384Kpbs

ADSL2+ ..........Up to 20Mbps.......................... Up to 1Mbps

Cable (Base Plan) Up to 30Mbps,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Up to 1Mbps

Cable (Speed Boost) Up to 100Mbps,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Up to 2Mbps

(Telstra - How to check your broadband connection - Support

www.telstra.com.au/support/category/.../how-to-check-your-broadband-connection...)

I'd be happy enuff IF I could just get what I had on the ADSL service thank you.
This NBN HERE... Is waaay slower than the old service. ALMOST on a par with the old "dial up".

Must be a regional thing, we connected to NBN as soon as it became available, never had a problem, however people in Kadina 15 KM away are less than satisfied with the service.confuse

Santa.

Can I borrow your IP address for a while please....(chuckle)
Apparently. Once you get over 1 km away from centre, your problems regarding speeds start.
and RURAL. over 30km's.
Just say a little prayer and kiss his bum.

Our Node is pretty much 44km from hub. Which itself is classes as Rural. then we

4km plus 80mtrs from that again.

IE Noooo chance.

It's lovely living away from city and people (Oh sooooo nice)
But unfortunately. We suffer in other ways.
We have over 21k lemmings here now. and TRAFFIC LIGHTS. Double YUK.
Place is full of Victorians and NSW,

Yeh sounds like a MONSTER shambles to me. Telstra have been running around Carnarvon for at least a year poking green cables under footpaths, and I don't know if I am connected or not. I can only assume (HOPE) that somebody will tell me when it happens because, it seems I wont notice any difference.

snip...

Not sure what you mean   ...

My 115Mbps is on 'Telstra Home Broadband Extra fast with speed boost' delivered on co-axial cable.  Not on my copper . vis ADSL

All this with landline phone too & a lot of discounts that take it down to around $80/mth.

400 Gig/mth with 3 free top ups/year  , but I usually use only about 20gig/mth  ... except when the Grandkids are visiting  .. They use that much per day, each with multiple devices running from the time they walk in  .. auto hook up to my WiFi.

As we grow older our brain power & reactions slow down, who needs superfast internet speeds anyhow, not me? I'm still back in pedal power territory & loving it.
To me it's about loving the pace of retirement. relax.gifHappy to let modern technology leave me behind.

Ahh Cupei. Cable. Different thing altogether.

Sorrrrry.

NBN is stuck to Phone line copper.. Remember Dial up.

This is just that. with an Auto dialer in there, seems like.
Nothing at all like they promised.

But there again Labor promises everything they can'r deliver. them whinge when Lib's get stuck with their empty promises.

They bankrupt every country they get their hands on. Look at UK for one.

If we could ever get rid of them before they get us in red for next 100 yrs or so.
We MAY get out or the third world syndrome.
That's where we going. Borrow. Borrow. No thoughts of repayments.
They just try to look good.

I haven't borrowed in over 50 yrs. You ain't got. You can't afford. Simple.
There'll be no Inheritence other than the house from us hopefully.

There wouldn't be so many on the dole if you had to HAVE the money to buy everything.

Hopefully they'd have enough spine to get out and find work.

Which is what. Hopefully.

this food and clothing vouchers will do to the ones on there now.

I Wonder what it'll do to Pensioners trying to travel though.

That may be worth thinking about. Food. Rent.Clothing, and travel vouchers,

will slow some down a bit methink's.

That may be needing a sit down and talk with pollies hey.

The Smart Woman Must Be Obeyed, (smile why a married man, would ever need an Encyclopedia, beats me smile)

Said....

Before NBN was available in our home town, there was plenty of information, (on the internet and telly), on why, Telstra would not be able to give 100 Mpbs download

The wife pays for 25 Mbps download, NBN through an ISP

We get 24.8 Mbps download

The wife says that it seems slower, than what we got from ADSL

Edit to say

Opps!
Fergetin me maners
Thanks for the link John (Rocky Lizard), it was the first time in years, I had bothered to check my download speeds
