Deep Cycle Battery's

Hello, If anyone is contemplating buying deep cycle batteries on line please check the weight of the battery first as I got caught with buying 2 x 130amp batteries that only weighed 22kilos each as opposed to 32kilos which is what I think they should be. My 120litre WAECO gave up the ghost within about 5 hours even though fully charged so pretty well useless. Must admit I did wonder why the weight was not specified on the ad considering everything else appeared normal.

I wont name the company as they were kind enough to provide a refund however it cost me $80 in freight to return them so a costly lesson.

I am not an electrician

When I was doing my research for AGM batteries a few years ago

I read that the weight equates to about 0.3 kilograms per amp hour

100 AH = 30 Kg
110 AH = 33 Kg
120 AH = 36 Kg
130 AH = 39 Kg

My 120 AH AGM Bosch batteries came in at (only going from memory), within 0.4 Kg of 36 Kg
I did notice that some no name brands 120 AH AGM, were advertised as (more than 30 Kg) by some resellers
Going onto the manufactures website, showed them to be around or less than, 32 Kg
Hopefully my extra 4 Kg, means thicker plates, in the battery

They may have been "kind" enough to refund your money Eddy, but they were "unkind" enough to send you batteries that were not what they claimed.

It is this sort of action by sellers that causes me to baulk at buying big ticket items over the net, apart from well established "known name" retailers who have a shop front somewhere.

Someone not as well read as those on this forum, and knowing how to check battery specs, could be completely hoodwinked by them, and end up looking for other reasons for the problems they may encounter, due to the batteries they receive not being fit for the expected purpose or service times.

I think it would be worth putting their name here so that others could ensure that they either avoid them, or check closely what they get. As it cost you $80 in freight to get your money back, I would avoid them, and in my opinion they were not so "kind". It has made your replacement lot of batteries a lot more expensive value.

Anyway, glad you got something back.
