A most pleasant week away.

G,day .As the wife has finally overcome her bout of pneumonia we snuck off on a 3hr trip to Darlington Point C/park 2weeks ago.Having read good things about it from this forum we thought why not ? The park is small ,the toilets have just been done up and 25$ a night for us oldies. The pub is good, the pizza place great and the small club has 12$ chinese meals.Needless to say we did them all.The icing on the cake however was the Altina wildlife park 4kys away. You book in and turn up the next morning and have morn tea and then climb aboard a horse and cart for a 2hr adventure ! We were 2 mtrs from mum and dad lions , bison, rhinos and later on meercats ,crocs etc. 37$ each and worth every penny. A day trip to see Griffith and Leeton too was delightful. As the Murrumbidgee was at our door a bit of pathetic fishing / drinking was indulged in also.We were fed by the town and we fuelled at the town and  were gladly welcomed at the park. This was a great break for my wife to recuperate and me to prepare for major hand surgery that has now been done and its 5 weeks of plaster etc for me . So do yourselves a favour and have a sticky beak at this little town sometime . Cheers

Sounds great Westy, I've bookmarked it for our trip southwards in late November if it's not too hot by then. Hope the recuperations are going well.

Regards

We totally agree with your comments moamajohn. We stayed at the Darlington Point CP a while back & really enjoyed it. Friendly management, clean modern facilities, not too expensive & well located next to the might Murrumbidgee River. The meals at the club were excellent & courtesy bus picked us up & dropped us off. Definitely worth at least a three night stay. Another similar place on the same river is Balranald CP. Great Chinese meals at the RSL Club & fairly cheap. CP has a stay 7 pay 5 offer sometimes. Some of these low key places are great IOO.

Westy, do you have any photos of the place and wildlife park? If so, we'd love to see 'em.

Here is the website of Darlington Point C/P with good information.

Here is a video clip of the Altina Wildlife Park...it is a private zoo with all the fees collected going to the upkeep of the animals and park maintenance.

If anyone is looking for a C/Park closer to Sydney, let me recommend Windang C/P, just south of Wolongong.

The entrance to Lake Illawarra on one side, and the Pacific Ocean on the opposite side.

Council owned and managed, lovely clean and fresh amenities, 5 minutes in either direction to large modern shopping plazas', and only $28.00 / night for Seniors.

Relaxed, quiet, and pleasant location.

We just enjoyed 4 days there, and am arranging to go back.

Cheers, KB
