I just put "tailgate safety mirror" in google. Lots of stuff came up. Not sure exactly what you mean. Are they the mirror like busses often have at the back?

I've noticed them on some Hi-Ace type vans - I thought they would certainly assist in hooking up van (certainly help marital bliss). Are they legal to fit to rear of tug (Patrol)?

Gooday,
Suggest you go to ezihitch.com and have a look they sell a Hitch Up Mirror which may suit your requirements.

Do you mean ezihitch.com.au  or perhaps even this link?

Thanks Bliss and Peter; Not that one is for me - It would just be extra space taken up and not as good as my current two tennis type balls on telescopic aerials with magnetic base. Also I have a DO35 hitch that wouldn't work on the ezi-Hitch mirror. I note they are the maker of the the ezi-hitch deflector to guide tow cup over towball (I use on of those for normal tow ball on trailer) great idea if using tow ball type couplings.
What I've seen is on some (Preggio?) vans - looks like a normal rearview mirror screwed on to top of door over rear window (outside of course) but doesn't have magnification as normal rear view mirrors. Has anyone fitted one of these - - The reason I question legality is on Patrol I have a brake light fitted centre top of rear window. Also would like to know where they would be available.

Nothing beats a reversing camera that is set up correctly. I have installed them on my last 3 vehicles and vans.

They are reasonably cheap and once you use them you will wonder why one was not fitted sooner.
