New to us is Nil-odour. Just a drop or two in the bottom tank. Have only used it twice so far but seems to be workjng. Not cheap but you only need a small amount
I had the same problem and was advised to rinse the cassette thoroughly at least 3 times until the water is clear, then I add a capful of eucalyptus oil to the tank. I use a natural enzyme deodoriser in place of Napisan. No odours any more
Ditto to Bryan additionally we have an atomiser ($2 Shop spray) few drops of Bossito eucalyptus oil in water better than aerosol sprays not explosive like some of the pressure pak ones near gas fridge.

When I had cassette type . I used a little BLUE in tank . Pink added to flush . The pink had smelly stuff added . The blue has chemicles that break down solids . Plus odours !! In my black tank toilet I use percarbonate of soda . It has vent through roof. Like home toilet .
You will get 'odour' with only liquids in the cassette.
If you use the toilet for both '1 & 2's' there seems to be little smell. I find this plus using Aldi brand Di San or similar product (sodium percarbonate over 30%) with a teaspoon of eucalyptus oil and the movement when driving breaks down the solids and allows the natural bacteria to work.
Works for us

We used to do similar, but given our rather infrequent use of the van these days, we have changed back to the Thetford commercial blue chemicals. The cost it insignificant in the scheme of things (about equal to a bottle of wine) & we never get smells if I empty the cassette every 3rd or 4th day.
I clean the tank after a trip using the Aldi 'nappy san' equivalent.
Edit .. Forgot to mention that we mostly use the public/CP facilities during the day when convenient, except when in transit.
