We can do something
Permalink Closed

I just want to let you know about a phone conversation I had with a lovely man from Britz (Tourism Australia).

The other day, a pair of backpackers drove away from their toilet roll from where they'd been urinating overnight (in a rest area with toilets of all places). So I decided to take photographic and video evidence and dob them in. I reported them to the EPA and I decided to contact Britz also, because we all know and complain about this behaviour from this younger, overseas based traveller, yet don't do much about it (other than some of you lovely, brave people that pick it up after the filthy mongrelbreds).

I just did it through their online contact form and within the hour a lovely, concerned man rang me and we had a conversation about it and he assured me their company takes the issue very seriously.

So make sure if you get evidence to dob the blighters in. Enough people dobbing them may make these ferals think twice and pass the word on that us respectfu, clean people are watching their every move!!.

If you're not happy with having filth dobbed in, chances are you're a contributing sloth also.

I/we look for the good in people, we don't let the odd negative consume us, time for a little toughen up I suspect.

As far as being a "contributing sloth" your words, we display a leave no trace sticker and abide by the rules, do you?wink

Perhaps if they were piddling on the ground you would need to take a bucket and get a soil sample and send it off for analysis.

Britz are interested in making money, do you really think Britz are going to do anything about it?

Hi Grubby, Good on you for taking the trouble and I hope something is done about it. Maybe they could issue a warning in their list of rules which might deter some of them. You can only try.
Unfortunately the ones I encountered at Head of Bight recently took off before anyone discovered their doings, otherwise they would've been in trouble with other campers. One other lady who was there was also going to keep a lookout for them. I never dreamt my garden trowel (thrown in at the last minute) would be needed to clean up someone else's mess.

Yes....it's better to do something rather than just complain about it. I hear it so often....everyone complaining about backpackers leaving mess, so the point of my post was just to let people know there is something that can be done and that the company took a serious and dim view of it. Those particular ones were relocating a vehicle for them, so he was far from happy that their company name was associated with the problem.
The NT didn't have a litter reporter scheme in place when I first got there. They do now and I used it the other day.

As for having a leave no trace sticker Santa....I reckon you'd just foul the air around you with your dribbling diatribe.

Hi.

I've always carried a folding "ex army ha Ha" Small bladed spade.

Used myself at times. but when I see anybody "dumping", or afterwards.
I always say Hey.
Try this.

Most look sheepish and actually do.

One that didn't. I shovelled it up and dropped it on his bonnet.
Sorta. Had to clean it up then.

I was bigger than him anyway.

Santa, I'm not sure what you said to deserve the nasty comments. Have some of your posts disappeared? I agree about piddling. If you can't piddle on the ground then we live in a very sorry place. I believe urine is quite sterile when it leaves the body or all those kids told to wee on a stinging nettle sting should probably be dead.
