giday all, I've travelled quite a bit in my life, but have decided, at 67 yrs. it's time for a leisurely wander around beautiful Australia. At this stage looking for a well looked after diesel 18-20 foot, high roof van with two singles. My budget is a bit tight so will probably be at least ten years old with up to 250,000kms on the clock. Any advice will be considered.

Hello kiparra and a very warm welcome to the playground. We had a caravan with 2 single beds. We bought wider mattresses which was good. We enjoyed our caravan but for one thing, the beds were not long enough. We r 5 foot 7. Measure both lengths of both beds. One of ours was shorter than the other. Just looking at them with covers we could not tell but 4 inches makes a big difference In sleeping comfort. Enjoy.

G'day Kiparra and welcome to the forum.  Don't forget to try the two ongoing games here - 'Who is This' in the 'I Digress' section and 'Pick this Place' in the 'General' Section - a great source to find new places to visit.   Will point out the main proviso - make sure the weights all work out, allowing you to actually take some cloths!

Welcome to the gang kiparra, enjoy here and out in the playground.

Reading your introduction and if I am reading right you want a motorhome not a caravan as you say diesel. I have a 20ft caravan with single beds and love the extra space and open fealing they create. I'm a big bloke and find the singles comfy. That said, if I knew what I know now when arranging the van build I would have gone with one bed bigger than the other. I have since found out I could have gone wider and longer one side makiing my bed even more comfy and only reducing the cupboard and drawer slightly, still giving enough room for my cloths. I am single so could need more room if 2 people but half my cupboard is empty anyway.

If you are talking caravan I agree with Pete and Marion, make sure all the weights and measures are what you need. Motorhomes are just as important. It is very easy for the rig to end up over weight.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

Gidday Kippara, I suppose you are talking about a Truck / Bus ? Do you have any ideas about what might work out for you? Places you would prefer to travel to?

Regards ...Muzz

Hi Kiparra and welcome. Your option of 18 to 20 foot camper diesel camper van points to a VW (a bit expensive in my opinion), a Hi Ace, maybe a older Fiat. There are quite a few out there. Have a look at caravanandcampingsales camper van section. Good luck with your search

Thanks for all the welcomes. I have narrowed it down to a diesel Hi Ace, coaster, or Commuter bus. Up to 25 yrs old because of my budget. I gather they're pretty reliable as long as they have been regularly serviced. I want to travel many of the outback sealed roads.
Inland NSW, QLD, NT, WA. I want two single beds, anticipating family or friends joining me from time to time. But I would like my bed permanently set up, for day time nana naps. There are a lot of vans out there, so taking my time.
