Life Was Ment To Be Easy If You Have The Ability To Adapt
in some areas house sitters are in very short supply - even in winter (as I listen to the pouring rain and howling wind outside). We're in Mandurah, WA, and house owners struggle to get someone to sit for them. Our next door neighbour (nice house and all that....oh, and great neighbours lol) ended up having to pay someone $100 per week as well as free utilities etc for the month of June/July.
When we were on the road in the Eastern States we used the house sitters website and we were constantly getting asked to housesit by owners. Some practically begged us (must have been my profile face pic that did the trick haha)

Hi Bruce, im hearing you and the wind and rain as we are NOR at Quinns rocks.
Hopefully as we are looking for a house/dog sitter for two weeks over the new year we thought it may be of use to people that may be visiting relies over the summer holidays.
Still waiting for a reply from the webmaster.
Will update post as/when we hear anything.
Kezngaz.

Hi Kez n Gaz. It may pay to advertise on Aussie Housesitters site (I can give you the web address if you cant find it or don't already have it). Its free for home owners, but I suggest you get in early.
Our neighbours that I referred to in an earlier post go north every winter and usually have the same sitter, but she was sitting elsewhere (apparently) and it took them about 6 weeks to find anyone and they ended up having to actually pay them.
Getting a few lined up now helps you to have an on-going email dialogue with them so you can better suss out if they will take good care of your house and your furry friend. Like work references, house sitting references don't mean that much - you need to get a good feel for them. I do suggest you not expect to ask them to pay for utilities etc or they maybe less inclined to really take the care you want.

Hi. We advertised on Australian House Sitters site about 4mths before we wanted to travel. We were very lucky to get a response in the third week & after speaking to the people I knew they would be perfect for our requirements. They had a motor home but chose to stay in our home. We did not ask for any money as they were doing us a big favor looking after the house, gardens & dogs. When we returned our home was just like we never left (could have been even cleaner). Try Australian House Sitter site, if someone responds, talk to them on the phone & check out the references etc. Good luck.
