road map through sydney

Hi all I have to drive up to Brisbane from Shoalhaven Heads with my disabled husband. I know I can do it but I will not have the assistance of a navigator.

I will need a detailed map which I will need to memorise so I dont panic mid lane !!!

Its just that bit getting around the Sydney bypass that I would need.

Hope someone will be able to help me.

Regards Ingrid

Go straight down the M1 and follow the sign to Canberra. It takes you way out west of Sydney. It is a toll road. There is 10kms of non-freeway thru West Pennant Hills (A28).

Effectively it is M1 then turn onto the A28 for about 10kms, then right onto the M2 which becomes M7 and ultimately merges with M31. Take that to Wilton (B88).

Do you use Google Maps on your computer? You can get a detail route from it.

Follow the Blue Route. www.google.com.au/maps/dir/Brooklyn,+New+South+Wales/Campbelltown+NSW/@-33.7983988,150.7346272,10z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x6b0d51c0e99536d1:0x5017d681632ae60!2m2!1d151.2149798!2d-33.5483592!1m5!1m1!1s0x6b12ee5195038d7f:0x5017d681632af40!2m2!1d150.814167!2d-34.065!3e0

Similar to above. First, if you can hit Sydney mid Sunday morning it is much easier and way less trucks. From SH head across to Hume Hwy then onto M7 then M2 for a smidgen. Hand a left at Pennant Hills Rd and follow signs to Newcasle or M1.

Pennant Hills Rd is the reason I like to plan my journey through that area on a Sunday morning North South bound. North bound, stick to middle lane once on PHR.

Done that trip quite a few times, both ways, with and without a van. Sunday is definitely best. Never attempt during the morning school run.

Doug. I think you directions are for heading North?? It is easier going North. In either direction on the non-freeway bit, just stay in the middle lane and watch for Canberra going South or Newcastle going North.

Correct Rusty. Ingrid is going from the coast to QLD and that is the reason for my northerly directions through Pennant Hills. Of course it would be reversed heading back south.

Depending on what part of Shoalhaven Ingrid lives they could cut across from Nowra or Batemans Bay but Ingrid was only asking about getting through the western side of Sydney.

You are correct in saying if going north follow the signs to Newcastle as I mentioned and heading south follow signs to Canberra.

I had to read the original qustion a few times there Rusty incase I got it wrong. Struth mate, I have enough trouble with Uncle Al without someone else making me think I'm silly.

No comment Woody or anyone else disbeliefno

If you can come across to the Hume Highway that Highway will go straight onto the M7
The M7 will then connect straight onto the M2
Travel along on the M2 in the left lane till you see the exit to Hornsby and Newcastle.
Keep in the left hand lane on the exit this will take you to a left turn onto Pennant Hills Rd.
After turning onto Pennant Hills Rd move into the middle lane of the 3 lanes
At the top of the hill after turning onto Pennant Hills rd follow the road as it curves to the right.
Now continue on Pennant Hills Rd till you see the sign to Newcastle at this point 2 lanes do a right hand turn onto the M1.
You do not travel onto the Pacific Highway which would take you through Hornsby.
The M2 and the M7 are toll roads and there are many signs giving the phone number you can call to pay the toll you have 3 days to pay
There is a rest area at the Hawkesbury Bridge travel across the bridge take the left exit.
The next rest area is at Ourimbah approx 35 k from the Hawkesbury Bridge.
Have a great trip
Cheers
David

For peace of mind if you haven't got an Etag go on line and apply for an emu pass, put in your travel dates and rego number and they will charge against your credit card when you actually use any toll road, harbour bridge etc. Of course there will be a small processing fee but I believe that there is if you ring them on the day as well, I reckon it's all a bit of a rort to make more money since they removed the pay booths. Just type "Emu Pass" into Mr Google and it should come up.

Cheers BB

I did that many years ago when I was staying out at Penrith. Went under the toll gantries many times. Never got billed. Sometimes you can get lucky.

Ingrid, you asked for a map. Here is the correct one. Go through the directions on the LHS, you can print them out by clicking on the printer icon at the top and select 'print text only.'

Hi PeterD
Perhaps something went wrong with the link, but that would not be the easiest way to travel thru Sydney and shows Ingred how to get to an address in Mt Colah which is not on the Mi to Brisbane and there are only very abbreviated directions on the left hand side of the map.
Cheers
David

Thanks for that David. I did test the link when posting the reply. When I saw your reply just now I saw Google had played up again. I have had another try at generating a correct map and have amended my previous post.

Another attempt at the correct map.

Regarding the abbreviated directions, note the " > " symbols at the LHS of the directions. They drop down the directions for each subsection. When you print the directions you print the whole lot and not just the abbreviated directions.
