What model Garmin gps are you using ?

Hi,

My current Garmin gps is playing up, and I need a replacement. I want a larger screen, probably 7 inch, and wonder what particular Garmin model members are using. I am staying with Garmin, because I assume the operating system will be the same as what I am use to.

i would appreciate feedback from members.

Thanks, Barry

I have GARMIN on my motorbike and in cars before the cars came with inbuilt GPS. Setting up the GARMIN on my PC was streets ahead of the others. The inbuilt lack in pre-loading destinations and routes.

a Real old one . I got told it would be cheaper to buy a new one , than get all the updates . But it works when I put in an addy.

BUT I Prefer Paper maps . Been reading them since I was in th scouts 57yrs ago.

Have always had a road atlas. Actually updated last year (Large HEMA). Sits between passenger seat & console. It's still better to know where you are relative to where your are going. GPS is good but nothing like a decent map.

I spent less than $80 on Gamin GPS a few years ago ( old stock ) and haven't been lost since ( no sense of direction.) The update recently on the computer was a bit expensive but on my budget way cheaper than a new one. Stick with what you are happy with. Gamin GPS is so easy to use and I don't think going top of the range is much benefit as you get a free update when you register it on the computer.

We have a Garmin nuvi and although only small 5 inch screen it is great you can enter address or co-ordinates plus just a town and it will take you there. But the good part is it has lifetime updates of maps etc. I purchased it in 2014 and about every 2 months I connect it t the laptop for the auto update via the net , very simple plus it has also had the software updated. The odd part is that it has off road tracks on it as well, bonus I say. And the snail trail is very handy when off roading when we go fishing.

I have found it better than my hema navigator which has been relegated to the cupboard.

I have the Garmin NUVI 2689 and am very happy with it. For planning I use Google, then transfer the way points to the Garmin.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 3597 and a Garmin Zumo 350 for my Bike , both have lifetime map updates and are very good units , I have Camps 8 installed in the Nuvi and Camps 6 in the Zumo makes it very easy to go to a Camp , Caravan Park or find a Dump point ect , just put the number in and away you go .

I use Garmin Base Camp on the computer to plan routes then upload to the Nuvi or Zumo even 4wd tracks , one thing I find annoying with the Nuvi is when you plan a route with waypoints / shaping points  if you bypass one of those points it will continually want you to make a U-turn you cannot just continue on that can be turned off with the Zumo and you can just continue on the route .

I did have a 7inch , VMS GPS a couple of years ago , it was junk and the 7" was to big for the dash

I've used them since the very first models long time ago.
Laterst model in a NUVI 65 6 ish in Diagonally.

Very informative. Traffic. Roadworks. Fuel. etc. Camera can be added.
Auto update maps (just did last week Around $160ish del.

Prev model.
Now in Di's Honda. 760 model Ollld as. Still magic Retail was $700ish.

They only a fraction of, now. with more in them.

Trucks model is 7in. But this 60\65 series is fine. reliable, So far.
At a fair price.

Garmin still seem to have the best overall reliability going for them.
I still have 5. land and marine, plus an old aviation model from maate when he bought new
(To him) Cessna.

Look at the Garmin truck GPS dezl 770 I think is the cheapest of the 7" ones. I find it better for the bus and also has the option to set the length height and weight etc of your rig to assist in navigation. I does take you on more safer tracks as it assumes you are a heavy vehicle so some latitude is needed.
Uses the same uploader etc as well as the same files if you have your own POI files.
Regards
Brian

We have the 7" screen Garmin designed for trucks. You can set it for your vehicle dimensions, which we have done when using it in the Coaster. When the Driver is using it in his car, he reverts it to "normal" car mode. Very pleased with it.
