Camec 3 Point Door Lock problem.

G'day, I just had the inside handle disintegrate on the Camec 3 Point Lock....

I have just purchased the complete Camec Main unit from Jayco minus the key barrel....

I'm in a Catch 22 situation....To fit new Unit, the Security Door has to be separated from the Main door.......the disintegrated handle is no more and its this handle that is lifted upward to disengage the upper and lower security locks to separate the door......I have tried to manually open both upper and lower locks plus moved everything moveable upwards within the main lock.....security door and main door will not separate...I don't wish to "force"..there may be simple solution however I can't find it....has anyone any advice or been confronted with similar problem?

Utube shows how to replace/install the inner, and the outer handles separately, however does not show complete unit installation starting with separating the doors with no inner handle....thanks..Hoo Roo

As you were...my initial problem has been superseded by a larger problem...my wife closed the door I was working on and turned the key....??...... and it is now locked....key does not open..locked from outside...all windows locked...everything inside van...mobile locksmiths coming tomorrow....a simple inner handle disintegration/break, part of 'Jayco built in' obsolescence?.... is obviously going to cost considerably more than the $99 complete Camec unit I just purchased from Jayco........I'm now attempting to find some humour in all this.......Hoo Roo

The first thing to do is to divorce the wife before she does more damage.

There is a hidden screw that is revealed when you lock the door from the inside. Do you know about that one? The snib you use to lock the door covers the screw. To operate the snib with the door open you need to hold in the little safety button. This button is in a piece that sticks out from the edge of the door. It strikes the door jamb and gets pushed in as you close the door. It is there to prevent you locking the lock when the door is open.

If your locksmith is not familiar with those locks he will need to know the above.

Maybe you need to create an artificial reef in a nearby lake with the old door G :) Then just get a new door, might work out cheaper than the mobile locksmith.

Head bush so you don't need a door until sorted.

Just another thought, send Mrs G out to get the new door while you fish the new reef.

Don't think so as a new door is approx $1,000.

If he has one with the rounded op corners it will cost a little more than that. Odyssey Square Category - Odyssey 2 Radius Category  plus he already has spent a lot on a new lock.

Better result than I expected thanks to Mal from Affordable Mobile Locksmiths Bendigo....turned out he has a Jayco and knew exactly where the top and bottom security locks are located..he had actually had one security lock break previously on his Jayco....he was able to gently 'prise' them to open without breaking them...they had clicked closed when the door was closed....a trap for young players fitting new lock assembly...

Mal then fitted the whole new lock, including my old barrel so I don't have to have new keys....then tested working fine....mobile service to Eaglehawk Vic...took about 1 1/2 hours and he only charged me $70...!....must have been my riveting personality.....yes I gave him a tip for his immediate/great service..thought it would be considerably more to rectify....thoroughly recommend Proprietor Mal....well done...even better ,my wife paid from her little squirrel cash storage! ......Hoo Roo

We have had a triple lock door on van since new (nearly 12 years) and been thoroughly annoyed with it over the years. Absolutely refused to use the locking snib when in the van at night even due to being locked in once.
It is a death trap!
Eventually in Geelong in June last, the whole set up failed and so we got the mobile chap advertised in the Geelong Top Tourist park office and he replaced the lock unit totally.
That in itself is not hard - I have had it in and out several times to repair and re-adjust, however this new unit AND the service mans care to detail and spending 30 minutes to finely tune the adjustments, means we have now got the BEST lock ever!
We still refuse though to lock ourselves in at night! WE do NOT trust that bit!
