The show ground was a good spot, but complaints from the CP had it closed, so we don't spend our money in Clare any more, there are more friendly places.

Cheers,
Peter

I find that a ridiculous statement.   Clare is  a wonderful place.  Why cut off your nose to spite your face. ??   Actually is a very good caravan park .  Daz

"Clare Valley Racecourse"

Private Camp.

We stayed there in 2015. Plenty of powered sites, all grassy and with views to Wineries. Showers and toilets in the Jockeys room. Either pay on line or drop competed form and $s under secretary's door.

We stayed 2 nights and did the wineries etc around Clare. We were the only campers there but more than happy to have left our Caravan on site with no one about.

We stayed at the race track
I think it was$10 or a donation a night showers and toilets
We set up under a whopping big shade sail
When the sprinklers went on during the night and hit the steel signs
Along the track scared the crap out of us until we worked it out and Clare
And surrounds is a great place to explore

we have stayed twice at the main cp just south of town. lovely park, good facilities and lovely log fire in camp kitchen every night.  if you like a more private and natural setting ask for a site across the creek. its amongst the trees. you can also hire your own fire bucket which they will bring to you.

enjoy!

Auburn Showground looked great. Haven't stayed there but we took a drive down to have a look whilst staying at the Clare CP. Very small but has all the necessary facilities. I wouldn't stay at the Clare CP again, very ordinary, we'll try the Auburn Showground next time. Auburn is 24 klm south of Clare.

Auburn Football Ground. We stayed there a couple of years ago. Planned to stay one night and ended staying for 10. Nice spot, clean facilities, very good camp kitchen and showers, plenty of space, lovely hosts and easy access to the wineries etc and the rail trail. We put this spot in our book as the place to stay if in the Clare Valley again. Rod.

Yes, we are now staying in Auburn Caravan Park/[sports ground after reading not so good comments about Clare Caravan Park, only 30 minutes south of Clare, and its very friendly, and only a walk away from the lovely town, and right on The Reisling Trail. Close to a number of great Wine Cellar doors, and a walk from Horrocks. Very quiet and $25/night. We are going to stay longer than planned, and may drive down to The Barossa for a day trip before going back North the Flinders Ranges. It doesnt have a dump though. Lots of unpowered sites at $18/night .... CMCA members get a 10% discount...

Because there are many more interesting places to visit without having to patronise the caravan unfriendly places. Those who like some freedom camping boycott those places. There were some campaigns way back where forum members  passed these unfriendly places around and we dodged them. One of those I will frequent is Bowen.

Yes Splottboy, we found Auburn to be the same, A nice pleasant and friendly camp with easy access to the valley attractions. The caretakers were pushing for a dump point when we were there a couple of years ago. Rod.
