use of & emptying motorhome toilet

hi all, i'm a 1st time motor-home owner, just 1 week, haven't been out in it yet. i has an inside toilet, i'm wondering about it's use & how to make sure i can completely empty it at a dump point. my somewhat delicate question is regarding the solidity of solids....no other way to put it....how to i make sure everything will pour out when i empty it, assuming i don't want to fill it up unnecessarily with 'water', either my own water of tank water, nor do i think filling it up with toilet paper would help....what's the secret ?

thanks.

Use an additive that breaks down your "Solidity of solids" that will let it flow freely.

Hi Pate and welcome.
Firstly get some laundry soaker or homebrand nappysan. Sprinkle some in on top of said solids.
Have a plastic bag hanging nearby to put your toilet paper in. No use filling the toot with paper or water, as you say.
Wipe the bowl with Ajax wipes. Keeps it clean and smelling fresh.
If you are camping put t/paper in paper bag and burn on open fire. Otherwise throw in the next rubbish bin you come to.
Oh also PS never put the wipes in the toot, always in rubbish.
The Napisanetc, will break down solids and they will pour into the dump point.
Then rinse out with the tap and hose provided there, also a swish around the dump point before closing the lid.
PPS never use that tap to collect drinking water.

when emptying at the dump point you may need to do several rinses till the water is clear and then put a bit more clean water in to start it off again. We do put paper in the loo but try to use as small amount as possible, if travelling, the van movement soon breaks down the paper and solids. While many people use napisan we use the blue chemical available from camping shops, as well as some pink water conditioner in the water tank as this keeps the seals in good condition.

Built in Toilet.

Use the proper chemicals.

Skimping on them with home made mixes is real penny pinching.
Not worth the effort.

And I've always put paper IN pan. Proper dissolvable paper.
NEVER had a problem.
ALWAYS empty AND FLUSH WITH TAP PROVIDED.

BEFORE FULL. (3\4 ish myself.)

Keep header tank full. Top up everytime you empty Outside access tank.
and you'll be fine.

I just have a stink sweetener in toilet section for any odours,
from Coles.
Simple and easy. and don't cost much.

If you standing veh for any length of time. I normally pour a little Cooking oil over top of pan flap that slides.

Keeps it lubricated.

A little more from me. An old Solo Indian Chief. (The twins don't come into the equation disbeliefbiggrin )

I have a Thetford Toilet with removable canister from outside of TeePee.

I have tried the nappy treatments unsuccesfully for some reason. Some say it works but I can't say that as it doesn't for me. I use Theford blue sachets that are pre measured and empty canister appropriately. I put about 2 lts of cold water in canister after emptying and one sachet. If I am mobile it gets shaken up and breaks everything down. If I am stationary for any length of time I go out and give it a bit of a shake up to stir it all up a bit inbetween empties. If I know I have to use a septic system to empty I use a Thetford green liquid one according to distructions. If I can't use any additive for some reason I empty every second day.

I use disinfectant wipes to keep bowl etc healthy but never put them down the toot. I put them in the normal rubbish like the paper.

Just thought I'd chuck all that into the mix......The thread that it smile

Hi - I have been using the clothes soaker - generic brands for six years - our seals are fine, because we are careful not to let the soaker get onto them.

A couple of people above, have mentioned the nappy wipes, body wipes, disinfectant wipes etc., - just to show you what can happen when you put them into a sewage system - look at this

nappy wipes.jpg  not only wipes, but food, bottles and who knows what else!  This is just one example from a sewer system, if this was in a septic system, you would be emptying it far too often.

That is why both HW and I said we DON'T put them in the toilet system Jules. Wipes of any sort belong in the rubbish bins wrapped up.

Keep Safe out there.

Have no fear, toot paper breaks down quite well. I line the plastic bowl with a couple of sheets to avoid skid marks and do not scrimp on the paperwork at the end of a visit. A reasonable amount of water in the cassette plus the sloshing action while travelling has always been sufficient to liquidise things. I do use two ply tissue and never ever put wipes in the cassette.

A generous tablespoon of generic NappySan plus 500ml of water in newly emptied cassette then a tablespoon per deposit does the odour suppression thing for us.

When about to use a dump point, take particular care to remove the cassette cap, wash, then place in a position where the cap will not disappear into the tank. I have heard lots of stories about losing the cap to where it is not worth trying to retrieve. I also remove and individually wash the slide too, before emptying the cassette. No phones in the top pocket is also to be advised before leaning over the rim of the dump point!!!!!!.

A good smear of Olive Oil on the seal every couple of wash outs is worth doing to help the sealing and ensuring a lack of leaks.

Depends on what side of the river the tribe lives mate.

Then again, you have to Toopoo in the Teepee to empty the pootoo.

Something like that anyway.

We agree with Doug, the Thetford chemicals work best from our experience. That's just using a Thetford Porta Loo. We reckon the Napisan treatment is a nomad myth. We use olive oil on the rubber seal at blade level as well, works well. You do it you empty it. Have you ever been in a cow milking shed early in the morning, welcome to sh*t heaven!

I use the green one all the time.
You never know.
It's not expensive. and looks after the planet for you hey. Normally wee-wee ONLY.

Solids go in park tuts or under shovel dig in ground,

with a bit of lime.

Hi,
Super Cheap sell a toilet chemical that is septic friendly. It costs about $39 for 5 litres or even cheaper if you buy it when the " specials " are on. I`ve been using it for a couple of years now. It is blue in colour but is OK for septic disposal.
Cheers,
Jontee

Solids go in as well......never been a fan of dumping waste on the ground.

Seen way too many unburied dumps, and white tissue paper blowing in the breeze.

Into the loo, and into the dump point.
