Great idea I just hope they keep the cost down to attract the traveller. I don't mind paying a fee but not a fortune. Like most of us here I am on a pension and every bit saved on accommodation is more to spend elsewhere in the town and so on it goes.
Powered area and self contained area would be a good offer as well. Like many others here I can go without the power and water hook up.
Well done Gladstone.

I also can go without power hook up but at sometime I need water hook up.
Have you developed a secret way of making water that I don't know about?
Mirian Vale was a regular rest break town for me when doing Brisbane to the northerns towns of Mckay or Townsville in my other life of a transport driver. A good distance from Brisbane.
We've been around the Gladstone, Rockhampton, Yeppoon area for the past 7 weeks staying at a caravan park. We can't believe the numbers of ''stealth campers'' around camped in such obvious places, some right next to no camping signs. Good to see Gladstone becoming more RV friendly.

I'll send the twins off in search of water if there long enough to need extra mate. Being solo I can get by with a bucket of water. I was also assuming showers would be available.

I doubt very much if I could convince my Marilyn to fetch water, maybe a beer but never water, I think I am in need of a person servant. Enjoy.
Miriam Vale along with Gin Gin would be a good stopping point, every 80ks a low cost showground stopping point now that woukd be super.
The showground in question is about 30minutes from gladstone. Great idea for this little town though. isn't there a caravan park near there that gives you free eggs?
Hi everyone, we are here at colliope enjoying a great free camping it's great what Gladstone are doing for us it's only fitting that we spend money here as we go a puncture when filling up at Miriam vale so we ended up buying 2 new tyres and some other work done in Gladstone which worked out fine for us as we were heading for our next free camping at calliope, As to people doing the wrong thing you are not going to stop it, it's a sad part of human nature and we have to deal with it but where will it end if we keep banning things and effecting the majority of us who do the right thing, if we keep going down the banning route then in the end we won't be able to move out the front door and I'm saying this as I look around and see the ribs all different types from cheap to expensive and everything in between this is far to big an industry to stop as I see it the town's that embrace it a d I mean except what comes with it will be the winners the rest will be the losers and we as grey nomads have to except what comes with this life style and if we see something that's wrong if you can say something then speakup but stop banning everything otherwise our grand kids won't get to enjoy what we do as I believe that our generation has had the best that this world had to offer thanks to our parents and generations before
them, I'll get off my soapbox I've got to much time on my hands ha ha ha, regards Danny and Rosina
We have very recently travelled the Cape towing our van, from bottom to top and back again. We found many free camping areas along the way mainly in off road cuttings, gravel pits and designated areas. While choice was plentiful, the decision to camp also depended on which side of the PDR the dust was blowing. There was limited rubbish on the road side and the roadkill we encountered were several car wrecks that had been left on the side of the road, mainly by the local community residents. That aside, the RV friendly town we have decided to be the best, is Mareeba. Apart from caravan parks, there is a few different places where travellers can camp around town. The Mareeba Council recently installed a second dump point and there is also a new super duper laundromat. There are places for people towing to park near the Coles supermarket and as Mareeba is the gateway to the Cape, both supermarkets (other is IGA) in town cater well for the traveller. Also, any amount of businesses that can help with caravaners needs. Beats Cairns any day for the RV friendliness.
Cheers,
Robyn and Phillip
