I would think a day to get there , A day at the Zoo and a day to get home , Would not think you would have any time to do much , except normal breaks , We left ipswich at 5 am normal rest breaks and lunch and got to Dubbo at 4 30 pm not towing a van .

If you just want to take it easy & miss Cunninghams gap , go from Beaudesert to Woodenbong to Warwick.

To Goondiwindi . Park up for the night Then head to Dubbo . At around 90kph Average , it will take you 9 to 10hrs.

Have a safe trip.

 Hi Weetbix welcome.

Like Brickies said long day of 9 hours plus to Dubbo 800ks.

Redneck idea is great for a drive when your at home when you would like to go on a picnic. This road to Warwick is slow and early into your trip could be trying.

You could spend an hour at Moree in the warm mineral pool.

My preferred way would be though Texas (generally good fuel price) then Yetman, Warialda (top bakery on left).

Now you have a choice though to Moree or turn left to Bingara then onto Narrabri though Killarney Gap Road.

On the Bingara to Moree road is Sawn Rocks NP, worth an hour.

All good roads with less traffic.

Just another good idea maybe.

Most times when heading south from Brisbane, we have friends at Tamworth and Coonabarrbran, we use the New England.  Free farm stays.

This way down to Dubbo is possibly the qickest in a car, not a lot of transports on the New England these days with most transport using the flatter Pacific Highway., lots of overtaking areas, good road surface. Fuel available every 50ks..

Things to do for an hour?

Tenterfield Historic Railway Museum. Check out a vinery

Glen Innes Celtic Standing Stones.

South of Glen Innes Balancing Rocks, a walk, picnic arrea

Guyra Mother of Ducks Lagoon, a walk, picnic area.

Armidale has to see, a quick dash of the highway. Fuel and food.

Uralla, Railway Station. Main Street, foodies heaven.

Moombie Range, halfway down, swing of to the right lookout, impressive views, picnic spot and a walk.

Tamworth lookout, motorcycle museum maybe a bit more then hour, lots to see.

Gilgandra Tourist Information Centre worth the time to walk in and have a look. Up in the main street they have a bronze statue to the Cooee WW1 Marchers which started from here, was there on Anzac Day for the unveiling a couple of years back, very moving.

Enjoy your trip to the Dubbo Zoo. I think Dubbo has a good Aviation Museum, you better add a couple more days to your 3 day dash.
