Thanks for your response and before I forget... I noted your comments regarding bore glazing and would be most interested if you would care to comment further on why you believe petrol engines are not affected by it? ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Hi Mike
In the time I was repairing small engines and also working overseas, I cannot recall having a small petrol engine fail due to bore glazing. I might have repaired/serviced thousands of motors. There are lots of failure modes but that is not one I have come across. Indeed it is common to run them just jogging along to do a small job and they can last forever. Note the most common failure mode is to run short of oil, particularly pumps which often run unattended after starting till the fuel runs out.
But I have repaired a few Honda pumps which have had a seisure of the big end after running short of oil without even replacing that part. That does not happen with another very common brand which will punch the broken rod out through the side. Cheaper to buy though.
