just wondering if any travellers here have been from Birdsville to Cameron Corne, my distance calculator says it is 476 kls but takes 19 hours, has anyone any information from a trip they may have done, thanks for any feedback.
Done it in 2008, cant remember on time but it could take a day or a week. It will all depend on road condition.
Allow 3 or 4 days and then if it takes an extra day or one less its not too much of a problem
cheers

Not a popular route due to challenging conditions, hope your rig is heavy duty & capable of covering the terrain otherwise it could be another recovery episode. Why would you attempt it?

There are a number of possible options of going from Birdsville to Camerons Corner. It depends what the distance calculator gave you as a route.
Was it via Cordillo Downs and Innamincka, or via the Walkers Crossing PAR, or via Arrabury and Nappamerie Stations.
The roads/tracks vary in condition on the various routes.
It is probable that if you chose shortest route, it is showing via Walkers Crossing PAR, which runs between the Birdsville Track, south of Birdsville, and Innamincka. I understand that is quite rough and may not be suitable for a van, depending on rain.
A little more information would probably help your cause in getting some information.

Hi Pauline
3 Cars and camper trailers. Time frame of 3 weeks annual leave. Early September 2007.
It been a while 10 years in fact, we left Birdsville around mid morning, a night at Mungeraine on the Birdsville Track. The desert had enjoyed rain making some side trips impossible, 2 nights in Maree, went out to Lake Eyre etc, a couple of things around Lyndhurst stayed at a hot water bore for the night on the Stzelecki Track before reaching Innamincka for dinner, then a couple of nights out at Coongie Lakes, returned to Innamincka, near on a week there when rain closed the roads before heading to Cameron Corner.
Everyone would find it different, we enjoyed the rain, we enjoyed the flies (no we didn't) we enjoyed the whole experience.
Yes! I would like to do it all again, we missed so much but have no negatives only great memories.
Would at sometime would like to do the tour again with the caravan and it is do able but with more time up our sleeves.
One thing allow ample time, hope this is of some help.
Not a caravan this trip would be a cub camper trailer, as we would be going to Birdsville from Grafton and would like to get to Broken Hill when we leave Birdsville just wondering what the shortest way would be without going back the same way we came

Well what do I say? Pauline we also had a Cub Camper at the time and we left Brisbane via Toowoomba, Charlieville, Windorah, Haddon Corner, B'ville, Lynville, Innamincka, Camerons Corner, Tibooburra, Milparinka, Wannaring, where we mostly went our seperate ways. Us to Brisbane and the other 2 couples to coastal NSW.
None of that can be done in less kilometres, we did feel it was the best for the money and time as we needed to be back for work, the others were a bit more flexiable.
For you from Gafton draw a line to say Quilpe, a good start, that is how Most would get to B'ville. Moree, Mungandi, St George possibly.
