Another CP to close

The local Council is preparing to close that iconic CP that overlooks the Mooloolaba (Qld Sunshine Coast) foreshore.

This is one of the very best CPs on the coastline & the Council has been threatening to close it since 30 years ago when I worked in the area.  They have finally got the numbers & bowed to the pressure from the local high rise unit owners who purchased their units overlooking  the long established CP.

The attached response is to an  E-Petition protesting against the closure.  I think from the tenure of the Minister's response the way the issue will go is clear.

So if you can, this year will probably be your last chance to enjoy this fantastic CP.

Stayed there back in the 1980/90s. I thought it was on borrowed time then. Noticed it still open about 18 months ago. Pity council bowed to high rise owners as the CP would have been well established way before those units were built. Like building next to an airport then complaining about the planes. Pity really.

I think it would have to do with high rise owners , I have stayed in units in Mooloolaba and from the units looking out to sea you can not see the caravans , The real reason they want to open the space to the public and make an walkway for everyone to use .

As I remember similar happened in Noosa at the end of Hastings Street. That park was closed down to make more room for the public.
However the owners of the multi-million dollar luxury houses over the river didn't like the idea of RVers having a luxury waterfront holiday in Hastings street at less per day than they paid for their council rates. Pressure was put on the council to close the park down.

From memory (lived on the Sunny Coast 12 months ago), the plan is to make it part of the 'paths & parks' system, offering better beach access for locals and visitors. Or at least, that is how they spun it............
