Roadside assist total care

Ive been with RACV for 30 years roadside assist. In 2000 I started my own business driving 100,000km a year through roo country. I had my fair share of call outs to RACV. In 2009 thereabouts I took on total care. 2013 a stripped axle 2 hours from home no problems under total care 2016 a blown front engine seal in our Hyundai i30 diesel 60km west of Kathryn, no problems, to the car and van back to town, hire car available etc. The motel offer, well we have a dog so we settled at Wilks Park north Wagga , a free camp. This week a seized water pump 30km south of Wagga Wagga saw another tow. What is comforting is the attitude of the staff at RACV /NRMA, to make us comfortable. Total care isnt cheap but worth considering. [URL=http://s804.photobucket.com/user/eaglefree/media/rps2017062

 Hi Eaglmax

A bit like you, have been a member of motoring club since I was a little over seventeen when I had a break down in those days 40 miles from home, at lost to what stopoed the car, my Uncle come to the rescue and called NRMA friend who join me up on the spot, fixed the problem, an electrical condenser in the distributor. Had spark at the points but soon as I tried to start the car nothing, a bit young then.

Coming upto 53 years later I am still a member of a motoring club, now RACQ. Utra Premium best you can get, if I don't use it for say 6 years I will still be front after the first year we had it. Service call, towing. Back on the road, a week later service call, towing, caravan towed to caravan park, best in town, rental car, park fees paid. Awesome.

At approx $270 a year, great insurance. Our car and caravan are not old, having the assist when well away from home is very assuring.

My friends love the bit if I stand besides their car, roadservice personal will do whats needed as if it my car.

Been a RACV member since I first got my licence back in 1968. Always had good service when called upon. Had total care for many years, peace of mind guaranteed.

Despite supposed discounts for years of membership insurance for car, caravan, boat, house & contents is far more expensive than most.

DD, agree, insurance from those companies should be the cheapest for long term loyal customers.

I certainly agree it's good value to be a member and I should add that at least in QLD the insurance rates from RACQ can be cheaper than other companies as was in our case.
My only gripe is their monthly magazine contains less and less interesting motoring articles and seems to be aimed at well-heeled jet setters.

Good Luck.

Don't forget that you need to be in the top cover when towing otherwise your van is not covered as well.

Couldn't agree more.  It is more like a travel magazine for high end clients.

I only joined RACQ with the Ultimate cover a couple of years ago & renew it when I plan a longish trip with my ageing rig.  Good for peace of mind.

Oh yes, between trips I change the cover to the Mazda3 that SWMBO drives round the city & try to remember to switch back to the patrol before leaving on a trip.

Never had a breakdown except for a failed ignition switch on my Getz at the local shopping centre.  Hyundai fixed it under warranty.  Paid for a locksmith & replaced the whole unit at my next service.  They offered to flat bed it back to their service shop but I chose the mobile locksmith option.  Can't complain about that.

SWMBO shops about for best insurance deals & I check out the policy details.

I'm with NRMA Top cover. Great service when I was in NSW towed me all the way to Maroochydore. 400ks. Dog in truck as well. Fantastic. Had appointment in Maroochydore and they got me there on time.

Needed help when I was in Townsville. Service was reciprocal with RACQ. They came and claimed that they couldn't get it fixed on a Friday and would need to garage it at their premises until Monday. Not happy Jan. Got in touch with NRMA direct who arranged to have it fixed that afternoon. RACQ also refused to have dog in truck . Luckily I was with friends who took care of Molly. Otherwise she was expected to stay in MH on truck. Not safe!! She is only small and weighs less than 2kg.

So, upshot is NRMA need to look into service provided by their agents.

We have top cover with RACT & I have been a member for 45+ years. We have had several call outs over the years with the worst being a high pressure fuel pump failure on our Mercedes Sprinter Campervan  on the way to Monto Qld -RACQ  FlatbedTow to Monto on a Friday afternoon - Their mechanics could not fix so they put us on the local caravan park site & picked us back up on the following Monday morning & a Flatbed tow to Bunderberg. RACT paid the $990 towage, 3 nights site fees at Monto & 1 nights Accommodation at Bunderberg- could have also had a hire car but Bunderberg  workhsop loaned us  one of their work utes.smile  Excellent service  & co-operation by RACQ & RACT & not being mechanically minded I highly recommend the cover.

Then when go away Just up to Max.
Now that we don't travel too much in this country.

Nice to have though.

Hey. Did they send you that gold 50yr badge.

Sitting here looking at it on Comp desk.
Should really bolt on to Di's Honda hey.

Mechanically minded or not.

The max covers everything, No matter how good a mechanic you are.

In middle of nowhere. you can't carry workshop and tow truck with you.

THEY DO. And get you and it. Home again.

Cheapest insurance everybody should have.

 Hi Cupie

My top cover RACQ Ultra Premium Assist allows you to nomination one car and then I can be in or around a car that needs assistants service people will attend.

Better have a read of your policy as I believe if you need to change rego numbers it quite possible you have not the right one if you are towing a caravan.

As for never, well My story in one week  was enough with a well maintained car, I said else where if I don't make a phone call for help for 6 years maybe even 10 years we are still in front.

Please reread your policy to be sure or have some one explain, I would hate to see you disappointed with what you paid for thinking you had the best. Ralph.

Thanks for that.  I have RACQ Ultimate which gives ..

...................

RACQ Ultimate

You'll get
  • 24hr attendance, up to 200km
  • Includes car, caravan & trailer recovery
  • You are covered in any eligible vehicle you drive plus includes extra benefits, up to $7000 p.a

.................................................................................

Is that what you have.    I was told by the rep that I had to change the vehicle details on line if I wanted full cover to move from one vehicle to the other but the above seems to say that any vehicle that I drive is covered.  Their main office is just around the corner from me so perhaps I should drop in next time I am out.

edit .. Just rang RACQ & they assure me that this cover (Ultimate) is their top policy & covers my Patrol & Van.  They are not aware of the policy name that you quoted but their Ultra product does NOT cover vans.  You might like to check.

To 'clarify' my position ..  Oh yes it seems I can change my policy to my Mazda as the nominated vehicle then SWMBO & I are both covered in it but the Patrol & Van are covered if I am the driver.

ie. A nominated vehicle that either of us can drive with cover and any vehicle that the nominated person (Me) drives with cover.
