Window leak

IMG_3625.JPG

IMG_3621.JPGhello everyone, has anyone had a similar problem with a leaking window. It is  In the lefthand corner facing the van On the outside. It is only a small amount.   Inside: it comes through on that littlewhat u could loosely call the window sill and the aluminium window frame. Strop thinks it is not the roof because when he cleaned that it did not leak but when he cleaned the side of the van water came in that corner. Was also wondering does The rubber around the window ever need replacing.

Yep, exactly the same.
Removed the window, re-taped /sealed the window frame (not the rubber, that was ok) and replaced the window..............bingo!
Used a mobile caravan repair fellow who came to us.
Couple of hours labour.
Cost about $160-180

One Screwdriver. One or two lengths of window sealer strip from any dealer\MFG.
Coupla hrs of your time and same "Bingo"
Done.

It's also a good idea to have a tube of Sika, etc. and run a strip of that along
the top of the window "glass" frame. above it.
Sealing both top of and under bottom rail of main window frame.
It's flexible.
Incl a nice little ball at each end. Water also sneaks in there.
SOME MFG's use the Putty srips. Some use a "foam adhesive " strip.

If the foam ones starting. remove
eplace the whole thing.
Don't try to "temporarily" patch part of.
It don't work. Early Coromal have that sh-t in theirs.

I had a leaky window. When we took it out to reseal it we discovered that the twits at build had joined the tape/foam sealing stuff at the top rather than the bottom (which I would think would be common sense). So it was just entering at the top there and running around the sill and dripping off into the first bottom corner.
So taking out, retaping and joining it at the bottom and resealing in again fixed that one.

Thanks for the replys. It has been raining on n off all day. All we could do was put plastic over the window for now. Thought that would do but it is raining again n still leaking. When it stops we will put plastic around the fitted window as above as well. Lets hope that will do till we get a fine day.

I just redid mine virtually the same window position, removed window, cleaned everything up, refitted with new weather seal from mitre 10 and a bit of silastic around the inner edge, sealed up the screws also....I found the water was actually wicking along the outer claddiing rolled join into the window cavity so a good bit of sealant fixed that.

Like every one else I did mine too. Leak looked just like your picture. Removed the the window, cleaned and resealed. I replace the screws with stainless steel ones. No more leaks and my van lives in the weather. Not a hard job just need a couple of hours of fine weather and a second pair of hands helps.

Hi all,

We have leaks in 2 side windows (soaking the mattress of our beds) of our Avan motorhome. Avan have tried 3 times to fix it!
Now they just ignore our request to have it repaired even though it's still under warranty... gggrrr...

Thanks for ideas/instructions on how to fix leaks above, very helpful

This maybe a silly question, would the repair process listed above be the same for windows in the Fiat Ducato body as compared to a caravan??

Interesting the leaks are in the same spot on both windows, GrubbyGypsy you might have something there with the joining of the tape at the top as this is were the water comes in ours as well.

Cheers, Delphine

 Hi Rocket

Sorry for the late reply. I didn't replace the rubber around the window. Maybe in the future but so far so good. From memory it would have been 6 years ago when I did mine. I must remember to tick the email box for new posts

Just resealing mine windows been in for 19 years with the original mastic sealant. Sealant had broken down and you could see where the water was tracking in.

Used the sticky one sided tape and a neutral cure sealant around the edges. Make sure if you use a sealant it is a Neutral cure type and does not have to be an expensive on either.
