Tug and Towed vehicle weights.

Anyone else out in the playground wonder at the regulations for tow vehicles and what they can legally tow.......

For example my Motor Home has a GVM of 10.5 Tons. Normal weight when loaded and  full water tanks and fuel tanks runs around 8.5 tons.

I tow a Suzuki Grand Vitara flat towed behind the MH.

I have been researching the ADR's re tow weights because I want to change the A Frame.

Amazed to find I must weigh three and a half times the vehicle I tow.

How then do we have tugs that can tow three and a half ton Vans and weigh less than the Van.

Now the caravan industry are proposing FOUR tone Vans.

Mystified.

4 ton vans equates to US Utes and small trucks only.
even 3 ton are illegal behind most of todays vehicles.
When you add\subtract the figures in\on both vehicles.

Getting up to those weights.

I reckon ALL should be 5th wheelers.
and all drivers of such have Semi licences.

The roads would be a LOT safer then.
With ALL drivers having a modicum of
serious driving instruction,Training.

Not an old retiree
not having had much more than family car and 6x4 before.
