"Set your own price" CP experiment success in small WA town

Saw this on Facebook - probably wouldn't work everywhere, but it would be nice to see more of this. Kulin is about 80km southwest of Hyden.

RE: set your own price

I stayed in this park for one night as I set off on my big trip to Qld. (still on it now). The reason I chose to stay at kulin was that it was on the way to merredin from my town and I'd heard (from a local) how this lady comes around in the morning and asks how much you'd like to pay. When I pulled up there was no one there so i took a site (all were concrete slabs). The lady came round later and asked what i'd like to pay. I wasn't sure what to say so she suggested $15 or $20. I paid $20 as the facilities there were very good and the town itself is obviously making a huge effort to keep itself alive. They have those fantastic ensuite toilet/showers just like your own bathroom at home. The town has a big undercover children's playground, a freecamp for RV's and even has an aquatic centre with a giant waterslide which they imported from somewhere on the Gold Coast. The locals brought it in pieces on a farm truck and jointly re-installed it in their town. In the caravan park they have a huge outdoor but undercover camp kitchen and they run a charity holiday camp there for underprivileged children several times a year. (Camp Kulin). Why would you not want to support such a great town? Word of mouth brought me there and word of mouth will bring many others too.

RE:

I have been to Kulin twice, before the caravan park, pay what you think it is worth price, started

So I have never been to the caravan park Each time I stayed at the free camp on the main street, where there are toilets, water, and dump point, and the camp is 72 hours

There is not much there, and they do appreciate your custom

From memory, a pub which makes meals, a take a way cafe, small supermarket, hairdresser, post office, some sort of machinery museum (in progress)

Fuel is a 24 hour card place A good place to chill out

We have stayed at Kulin a few times and found the c/park very clean and the locals are very friendly and helpful with info on the surrounding area.

The tin horse highway is a must see as there are a lot of pieces of interest that are very well constructed

Good on the town and the council for their initiative. We are currently in a small town in NSW - Ardlethan - right in town, next to the bowls club. It is a free camp with a difference - there are four power points, $2 for 12 hours power - accumulative. Toilets, water, and plenty of room for possibly 12 vans/mh's. The supermarket has had a great makeover, and is now a Foodworks, good prices and lots of stock. There is a butcher, NAB, pub (of course), meals at the bowls club (not sure when), and a few other shops. The town looks so much more prosperous than the last time we were here, seems the power at the free camp brings travellers who do spend money to support the shopkeepers. Called Ardlethan, just off the Newell Highway south of West Wyalong.

What sort of Caravan is Phil traveling in,

I wonder if he is going to join us, sure is a Grey Nomad !!

That would really put Kulin on the map, if he was to pull in there for a couple of days,   relax.gif
