I am planning to travell from Pt Augusta via Coober Pedy to Uluru.
I am driving a Nissan Patrol 4.8 litre Petrol vehicle, towing a Jayco Starcraft Caravan.
My question concerns the availability of Unleaded Fuel in those areas. My earlier experiences, in other remote locations, revealed that Diesel was readilly available, but in some other locations Unleaded Petrol was virtually unheard fo.
Do any of you have personal experience in this regard in these areas??
No problem Reg on the highway - not certain about going out to Uluru but I assume that's the same.
I take gas (with the diesel) & it is available all the way (bit expensive in some places) but a far better situation than SW Qld!
On Stuart Hwy - No problems at Pimba - Glendambo - Marla
Coober Pedy has petrol and diesel
The mobil at Yulara (near Uluru) has all petrol and diesel fuels. In 2010 it was cheaper here than Erlunda Roadhouse and Curtin Springs may have changed by now
G'Day you will have no problem all the way at Yulara the village near Uluru their is a shell station with unleaded premium and diesel plus at Curtain Springs there is fuel as well and all along the highgway unleaded every where. enjoy the trip. Bru

If you concerned about the thirst of your truck.
A cheap way of doing it.
Is to install a flat plastic fuel tank on floor behind seats.
Will give you up to 110ltrs and just load other stuff on top.
They do side (Wheel arch) tanks too.
And long ones that fit along footwell on back seats.
Or rack on roof with line down to tank filler when needed.
I carry 2 (or more) plastic jerry cans in tray. with a electric fuel pump
and 3 mtr hose that fits in neck of cans.
Just clip onto rear battery and pump diesel from tray to filler while having a fag
(Just joking)
Pump\hose cost around $60. Pump off net. Stainless.
30mm fuel hose from Bunnings.
Only have 1 x 79ltr tank. maybe 65\70 usable.
Extra 50ltrs good peace of mind on long trips.
My Petrol Fairlanes.
I always had gas fitted.
100ltr tank fitted neatly along front unused area of boot.
Right over rear axle.
Gave extra 90ltrs of usable fuel. and the old Cleveland wasn't exactly
economocal with twin Holleys on top and extractors.
Rear tyres were another thing.
Only Pirelli (P1 from memory). Gave any sort of mileage out of them.
Very heavy at back end but gave GREAT traction.
Outdrag anybody the first 100yds.
Then gravity took over. Heavyyyyyyyy. But sounded sooooo sweet.
Just a concern re carrying fuel inside a vehicle. It is illegal to carry petrol (not diesel) inside a vehicle.Ie behind seats on in the footwell. This is because it is a dangerous substance with a low ignition point. Diesel is not the same. Also in Victoria, carrying fuels in containers that are external to the overall dimmentions of the standard vehicle is illegal. You see many 4WD with jerry cans on the rear wheel carrier. This is in fact illegal and dangerous especially if there is a rear end crash! Carrying petrol on the roof is fine, but remember that all roofs have a weight limit set by the manufacturer. Some are only 50kgs. This is not the carrying capacity of the roof rack which may be more. Also be aware more weight on your roof upsets your centre of gravity! Also the extra weight will count in your overall GVM.
