Sam, Billy, and Bobby, were three friends, who grew up together
They had never married, and purchased a large house together

Sam went away overseas on a holiday package tour

He loved his cat, so he arranged for his two best friends to look after it
He also gave them his holiday itinerary, in case they needed to contact him

Halfway through his holiday, Billy phoned him and said
Sam, your cat has died

Sam was very upset, and all he could do was switch his phone off

A few hours later he phoned Billy
How could you have been so insensitive, my holiday has now been ruined
What else could I have done, it would have been no use lying to you. Billy replied

You could have sent a telegram to my next hotel and said that the cat was on the roof of the house  
Then a second telegram saying that the cat had fell off the roof
Then a third telegram saying that the cat was at the vet
Then a fourth telegram saying that the cat had died
At least that way I would have been prepared

A few days later Sam received a telegram

Sam, I have to tell you that Bobby is on the roof of the house
