There dosen't seem to be many projects going on by the members.

My projects so far have been -: Installed second battery and DC-Dc charger in the ute, Installed caravan tow wiring and "Pro-Tow brake unit in the ute. Installing USB socket and part of the same project the caravan brake battery warning device, on going in the ute. Installing the canopy and shelving on the ute tray maybe this weekend.

To do-: install a primary diesel fuel filter.

Caravan:- Repositioned water tanks and re done the grey water tank to improve weight and balance issues, Installed a balance tank on the washing machine outlet system, Installed aerial wiring for the sat TV, Installed extra 12v and extra USB points, as well as a headphone amplifier so I can hear the TV. Installed a stainless steel grab rail in the shower, installed gel body wash dispensers in the shower and hand basin. Re done some of the vans main wiring loom, and connected the heavy 12v supply to the vans 12v controller. Re done the bed frame hinges. Made up insulating blocks for the van overhead skylights to stop heat (both ways).

To do-: re-position the batteries, and redo the wiring on the house batteries, install diesel heater, install extra sola panels on both the van and ute.

And on top of this I have house projects and you don't want to hear about them.

So what are your projects?

Where's "Hey Jim?"

Well done mate. That said though, I do hope you only worked in Grey Nomad working hours? 10.00am to 12.00pm only, with a compulsory one hour break.

Me, I have finished all my little 'projects' for now and enjoying the fruits of my labour.

No wonder all the secondhand vans that we looked at had more holes drilled in them than Swiss cheese, loose wiring hanging out everywhere. We ended up buying new.
Too busy enjoying Gods country to indulge in DIY stuff.

The more holes drilled, the lighter the van will be. That's my theory anyway.

I would love nothing better than being able to go outside and tinker with the van unfortunately we have to keep it in storage as we have nowhere to park it at home. The van is new but there are still things that would be nice to do like the frilly pink curtains or the mirrors on the roof.

I did Doug. Has cleaned out behind fridge. Half and inch of red dust in there. All the screws were loose and it was about to go walkabout. Added Hard disk connection to TV. Now I can just press the remote to get movies on TV. Replaced the speakers. Don't know about that one. They nearly blow you out of the van when turned up. That might get me offside with other campers. Other things to be looked at. Might be a few more days yet.

Mel.

Little tip.
Speakers.

I bought a coupla prs of bluetooth headphones.

Linked to teev in van. and home. and comp.
Connect to whichever we using with a quick click of finger.

You can play teev. music whatever. as loud as you like.
Nobody disturbed. and decent quality music.

I couple to teev at night when Di Goes to bed or me up with funnies.

Magic things. $40 gets a decent pr.
And mine can hear the footy on teev if we in pool area.

Saves a lot of hassles when madam gets in the pit early,
believe me.

You are right Macca, but I'm not really a fan of loud music. However, I no doubt have the latest and best. He's a bit of a tech nerd and at least I can trust him to install everything perfectly according to the rules.

Being able to hear it also . We have TV turned up so we can hear it . Purchases a blue tooth speaker, fitted beside bed . Now we can hear the talking over the background noise . TV turned down heaps . Extra stereo doesn't mean heavy music .

Hopefully the pictures will tell the story
The background to the story is

Coming home to the west, across the Nullarbor I lost gas pressure, and therefore did not have enough gas to use the water heater
This was no big drama for me as I carry a 12 volt, as well as a cordless shower

But...
I was losing my three way fridge temperature, so I had to hoof it along to get home, which is not nice, when you are in travelling/tourist mode
When I returned home, I found yellow stuff come out of the hoses connected to my 9 kg gas bottle

I removed my regulator and pigtail hoses, from my RV, and then connected a home-made manometer in my shed
I found that the regulator was only delivering 2 inches of water pressure
(I am led to believe that it is supposed to be 11 inches water pressure at sea level, in Australia)

I have no way of opening the original regulator, to clean it out
(I did read somewhere that you are supposed to renew both pigtail hoses, and regulator every five years)

I decided to purchase a new regulator (which can be cleaned out), as well as new pigtail hoses, as a set item

The problem for me, and I sincerely hope for no one else.
Is that the new pigtail hoses, have a hand tightening end to the bottle
This make it rather awkward for me, as the bottles are in a container, and my hands are not as flexible as they once were

As they say that necessity is the mother of invention, then the pictures tell the story
Which I hope is of no interest/need for anyone else

New regulator fitted, as you can see if it blocks up again on the Nullarbor, then a gas fitter will be able to clean it out for me

Regulator.JPG

Spanner I made to fit the bottle ends of the pigtail hoses
Made from 4˝ mm (3/16 inch) hard plastic

Spanner.JPG

Why I wanted a spanner for my situation
Spanner will not stay there, it will sit on the floor of the gas container when travellibng

Great to hear others doing upgrades etc. We head off for the big lap on 1st May and have:

Me- made all new curtains for our 2011 van, new doona cover, bought new mat for floor area inside of van as we are not taking our recliners as we find them too bulky in a 16' van. Using our very comfortable reclining camp chairs (inside or outside), oh and they have sheepskin covers made from seat covers out of the Fairlane we sold, being a pop top the shower head is not high enough for other half so attached a broom holder on the ceiling of shower to hold the shower head when he is using it, added a couple of plastic coated wire baskets to hold assorted containers eg: coffee and also in the "bedroom" a basket for the essential moisturisers, sunblock so handy. Oh and yes a blue tooth speaker - excellent.

Gary - the other half. Well he's been hard at it - a bike rack, roof racks for the newly acquired kayak, then the new checkerplate canopy. Solar panels from our old Jayco that had an insurance job done and had new panels added so put on top of canopy to run extra battery,  also a pole holder he made himself on top, max trax also on top. Inside the canopy the obligatory Engel on the slide out and drop down, shelving and drawers he has made himself and covered in outdoor carpet (grey to match colour scheme of course) brackets for ladder attached to inside roof of canopy, fishing rod holders attached to ceiling also, a really innovative table made out of scraps that attaches to the bar on the aluminium tray of ute, bought a longer gas hose and adapters to attach to Weber Q and gas ring, table for the Weber Q and gas ring that is very compact and collapsible, large container sits in gas bottle holder to use as washing machine as we travel, had an extra light tarp made up to fit anti flap bars for extra shade but mainly to stop rain over door, I am sure there are more that I can't think of at the moment but I know I am getting very excited. We will head north and across the top for winter and then head down the WA coast. Hope to run into some GN's

Kim
