I guess we all have different experiences and maybe will all depend on a wide variety of climatic/weather conditions.
But in my two days there I never saw a single leech around the camp area, never encountered any when foraging in the bush for me firewood or trying to find an elusive koala that I had heard growling on the first night.
However, as I said, I stood for only about three minutes at the dam .. and they sent out the scouts and decided they loved me legs.
All three mornings there were very dewy - windows of the car were saturated with water and grass like we had had light rain.
As I said, it all depends on what one experiences.

Even the locals in nearby Heywood warned us about the leeches when we picked up fuel & shopped at the IGA supermarket. It's still a lovely peaceful place to camp at though.
