Hi all, we are new trainee Grey Nomads, have bought a new 4x4 and wish to install a UHF, any suggestions on a quality brand, price is not the issue, am currently looking at
Uniden 8080/9080 or the GmeTX3350 any thoughts & experiences would be appreciated.

If you do a search in the box above there is heaps of info already discussed but quickly, both you listed are good. I have the GME TX3350 and it is a trusty little box indeed. Make sure you have it fitted to the tug and maybe get a small hand held for the co pilot to use as you reverse into spots etc.
I am solo but still have a small hand held, just incase. It gets a bit tireng though...how's it going for space back there? (run around back) come back about 6 feet (back in car) OK..how's that? (Out back again) spot on (in car again) OK. See what I mean Phil

While uhf is a great idea I don't have yet have one fitted myself but agree with Doug on the usefulness of the extra handheld.

As I do not go off the bitumen, I find that a hand held is good enough for me, to let the truckie know that I will help them to safely pass
I am also going to fit a hard wired UHF, (it is on my list), as I find that it is a cumbersome exercise, to adjust the volume of my el-cheapo hand held
What is important is a name on the back of your rig, so that the truckie know who they are talking to
and no it is not too late, putting our name on the back of our van is another good Idea and will add that to our list as well, we have been travelling the last few years, I am using my long service leave up, we have encountered a few road trains in the past and with our new rig and bigger van I decided to get an UHF so we can communicate with others, not only trucks, so all tips are greatfully accepted.
