Scania coach conversion

Hi everyone. I'm new at this so please be gentle.

We have just purchased a Scania coach (48 seater) which we are going to convert into a motor home.

I need the name and contact details of a good engineer in the Goulburn Valley (Victoria) who can sign off on the conversion.

I got it registered so I could drive it just after I got it and 12 months rego is $2700.00.

I have removed the seats and was wondering at what stage I can get it changed over so that the rego is cheaper.

I have been informed that you can get 'club registration' for as little as $80.00 per year if you are a member - any comments  or suggestions????

G'day Jorgyz,  and welcome to the forum.  Plenty of great advice and folks on here.  Don't forget to try out the two games - Who is This in the I digress section and Pick This Place in the general section.  'Pick this place' is a great way to find new places to explore.   smile   We're in WA so can't help in regards of your question

Hello Jorgyz

Also a warm welcome from me

Like Cadpete I am also in the West

I have been told (so this is at least third hand)
In WA a vehicle has to have at least a bed, a bit of a wash sink, and a water tank, to become a RV

I looked at a converted bus of about 30 seater, and the rego was about $700 from memory

I have no idea about club rego

Hopefully someone from Victoria, who has also converted a bus, can help you out

Welcome to the gang Jorgyz, enjoy here and out in the playground.

Look after that Scannia. Nice. I drove a 60 seat one with full auto and toot on board in a previous life.

Hi Jorgyz, welcome to the Forum. I would suggest you contact Vicroads to find out what's required to have your bus registered as a motorhome, they may also have a list of engineers qualified to sign off on the conversion. I was lucky in that my Hino Rainbow already had a conversion compliance plate (Federal) with a GVM of 5,725kg - according to the seller mine was the actual vehicle submitted for type approval under new regulations that applied to vehicles manufactured from January 1989, which I think is the case as it came with mock-up beds made from chipboard to show where they would be installed. Mine is registered in Queensland as a motorhome, rego costs about $1,200 per year. Hope this helps.

Cheers, Joe

Hi everyone

Thanks for your kind welcome.

I have sourced a heavy rigid engineer right here in Shepparton. He has given me a few pointers to get me started.

Once again thanks
