Camping Site or Caravan Site

Hi, I'm going on my first trip from NSW to WA. I'm driving a 4WD that has a bed frame built in the back. I was just wondering when booking a site at a caravan park, would I book a camping site, or a caravan site? I was thinking it would most likely be a camping site as I won't need to be hooked up to anything, but I'm not 100% sure. Thank you!

Hi there

A. I think it won't be that necessary to book. I've never booked a site yet.
B. You'd just ask for an unpowered site.
C. Free camping is the bomb. Literally just pull up where you like for however long you like.
D. Make sure you've got wikicamps so you can see the pricing before you go into caravan parks. That way you can be forewarned to those that are ripping you off and not even darken their doorstep. Also I've noticed unpowered seem to vary a lot.
E. Have fun....

We would like to stay n c the area where we r but at $34per night unpowered n no water is a bit rich. all powered sites r fully booked With a caravan club. N no free camping anywhere near the town. Such a shame.

Just depends where u r I guess.

Hi, free camping would b the go. If u go through hay there is a fantastic free camp on the river near the bridge. Check wiki camps. There r lots of free camps just not everywhere u want to stay. If u r on your own n go to a caravan park always ask for a one person price. Some will give a discount, some will not, but never hurts to ask. Good luck have a great time. Enjoy

caravan site and camping site are basically the same when looking at caravan parks - just that some have power and some don't. Those without power are a few dollars cheaper. Generally don't need to book unless you are going to the very popular spots (beach) during school holidays and if heading north from Perth the beach areas can get booked out by grey nomads escaping the winter.
It's better not to book as then you can be more flexible with travel timetable

Thank you so much for the replies! Really appreciate it. I have WikiCamps so will check out some of the free sites. I'm just not sure as a solo female traveller if I'd feel comfortable parked up by myself.

Why would you book into paid accommodation (caravan parks) when you are set up to camp, some service stations (up north, at least) provide showers when you fuel up, lot cheaper than CP's,

Roof bars. Solar panel or two.
Battery and some LED lights.

Roll out awning on side. Or FOXWING to cover side
ear.

Maybe one of those $250 tents that fit on them. Camp stretcher for snakes.
Heat exchanger under bonnet with watertank under\in rear. for HWS shower.
Or just a 20 ltr water bag on bonnet.
A bucket\pump shower is dead cheap\easy to setup.

You independent everywhere then. Just need water\fuel supplies.

Van park once a week to clean up, do washing. restock. proper shower etc.

It's fairly easy to set up for single. I been round on a dirtbike and tarp.(1 1\2 times)
Campervan. coupla laps with yacht. and one with van (by self.)
Multiples with company.

Took a woman and her 2 (10\12yr old) daughters round once in a Fairmont on gas
and an old van.
That was both interesting. AND very enlightening to a single male living on his yacht.
believe me. Loved it.
Pity she got too clingy hey.

 You'll be good mate.

Not sure why someone would suggest northern sites to you when you're clearly travelling east to west.....but......

anyways, I'm a solo chick....if you need to know anything about freecamping by yourself....just yell out.... I do it all the time....by choice. You'll be fine mate.
