You know what I'm going to chuck in (and leave a lot of other stuff out because of it) ?

My rotary tool (Ozito) . It cuts , grinds , nibbles , drills , polishes etc etc etc and has a 3 year warranty .

It really depends upon:
1 - your skills
2 - how remote you are going

If you're a person who struggles to put up a shelf then there's no point in you taking more than a couple of adjustable spanners, a screwdriver with multiple bits, a junior hacksaw, a craft knife, a hammer and a few nails and bolts/nuts/washers.

If you are going remote then some car repair items are in order too; a compressor, a tyre plug kit, a few rolls of "Rescue Tape", cable ties, a roll of thin galvanised wire, spare fuses, a basic multimeter and some, thickish electrical wire.

I'm planning to go on the road permanently over the next year or so and am facing a similar issue, space and weight are of course an issue but my current list is:
Socket set
Ratchet spanners
Pliers, screwdrivers, files and the like
Battery drill and bits up to 10mm - plus a stepped 10mm to 20mm bit
A table top swivel vice and a small engineering vice
Large and junior hacksaws
A folding workbench - if I have room
Lots of electrical/electronic stuff - I'm an electronics engineer

Beyond the above it'll depend what I can fit in but I would be lost without a decent range of tools.

A couple of wine glasses, a TOTAL COVER from your State motoring organization & a Telstra mobile phone with decent reception when it's available.
Maybe a hammer, pair of pliers & a selection of screwdrivers if needed.
Taking your workshop with you is not a realistic option. There might be other tools that you require along your way depending on the situation that you're in.smilesmile

Damn! I take more than that just in the 4WD - give me a caravan and see what I can take then! :)

Not a tool as such but pack a mouse trap. Speaking from experience. And don't pack anything in cardboard fruit and vegie boxes when crossing into WA as these will be taken. Duct tape.

And ALWAYS... add a "Huntsman" spider or two to the van.
one of them = NO ****roaches.

Just don't tell missus.

Di woke up to "fred" walking across her ace one night. They heard her scream in the next State.
I had 2 pet ones on board the yachts. Always.

Take necessary spares such as all hoses and belts and a selection of tools because even if you dont know how to use them someone who comes along may know how and get you out of stife.
I tow a trailer with all my stuff and many times I have been ridiculed about the junk I carry but then usually later the same person will come looking for a tool or part and lo and behold I never have the junk that they desire LOL.
I do a lot of volunteering and have always been a tinkerer so for me without my tools would not be possible.
We are all different so never chastise anyone for being different to you. One of the biggest mistakes many people make.
If I have anything I am happy to share or donate but give me grief and I will drive away even if you are broken down.

If you a tool person. (Mechanically minded) take your tool box.
Otherwise just a basic Screwdriver\socket set with clip of Metric? spanners.
Multi meter. hammer etc.

Hoses belts, fluids, ALL fluids. tyre gear are a no brainer on any trip. Regardless.

WITH... TOP RACQ cover.and a good phone service.

We have RACQ top 56yrs Gold? cover. $86 a yr.
Covers everything. everywhere.

2 x vehicles. Just have it on the veh we touring with at that time.

Only used it once in last 16 yrs.
Trucking Patrol from home to Nissan dealers in Rocky 10+ yrs ago.
Key ring sensor carked it.
Only breakdown any of my 5 Nissans ever had.

But. Same as a pr of jocks.
NEVER leave home without it.
