Just received a NBN connection kit through the mail from Telstra, wondering if others have set up their broadband connection using this kit and what was the experience like?
Santa, I have just done a self install using the kit. I spoke with their tech guys using my mobile as i did it. Simple as. The tech guy could not have been more helpful. Telstra cope a heap of flak at times but my experience if you follow their instructions most of the time things work out very well. Don't be slow to ask for help they really are better tan most of the others.
I have installed ours this morning without any drama. Plugged in the phone cable, power cable and something called dsl cable and 10 minutes later we were back on line. I did a speed test yesterday which came in at 11 and today it is 22 so sounds promising.
The only possible issue I could see with installation would be if you have to hook up a smart tv or anything the cable they supply is not very long. I agree that Telstra support can be very good. Good luck with your installation.
I got NBN via fibre in October 2014 as one of the first residential areas done (Ballarat). Telstra's NBN help line had only been operating for a few weeks. The support was good even though the NBN help line staff were either brand new or existing Telstra moved to NBN side. The modem I have is connected to a new connection on the wall in my den but operates wirelessly throughout the house managed by my PC. Just needed to change modem/network name, and set a network password & security. Smart TV just connects as per iPhones, iPads, android devices. I actually have 16 devices attached wirelessley to the modem (PCs, iPads, mobile phones, printer, media boxes, TVs) & 3 wired (network drive, printer & a landline phone. Even with wireless technology there are cables and wires everywhere.
