just so much to see when in tassie, just back from 5 weeks over there and still not enough time , this was our 4 trip over. Check out Derwent Bridge, You can free camp @ the pub and also visit the ' WALL'. well worth the stopover.

Make sure you " Climb The Nut" at Stanley. There is a lift as well. Have fish & chips at the park beside Hurseys Sea foods. under the big crayfish. Do a seal tour, tell daryll I sent you and ask him to play one of the 300 cassettes I gave him, cheers Craig

Sarah Island near Strahan is fascinating as a one time penal colony. Its last ship was mutineered. You can buy the book "the land that God forgot" in Strahan that tells the story. Take a jet boat up the river. Carved war scenes at Legerwood are unforgettable (in the north east). Murals in Sheffield and mt Roland is a must before you get back to the ferry. Enjoy Tony

Make sure you visit the "Pub in the Paddock" at Pyengana (St Columba Falls Hotel) and while you're there buy the pig a special pig beer. It's one of Tassies oldest pubs and is great for a meal, there is accommodation available but I'm not sure about campsites. Turn off the Scottsdale/St Helens road and head out towards the Columba Falls reserve - the pub is on the way (it has a website so look it up).

The amazing thing about tassie when you come off the boat most people either turn left Or right to do there lap around the place back to the ferry,and there all headed to pretty much the same destinations, it's like one big social event you seem to be consistently running into the same people whitch adds to the enjoyment of touring tassie..

There is not much straight south. you have to turn one way or the other.

As I approached Tasmania I kept an eye on the weather. I know it is hard to get good weather at Cradle Mountain (only about 70 fine and sunny days per year.) If good weather is coming through then turn right and go up there on a good day. If a period of bad weather is ensuing then turn left, come back later.

There is quite a lot "straight south". The entire Midlands, the lakes district, the Tiers....the list can go on.

Hi Barb and Darryl, I live in Penguin, heading to West Ulverstone caravan park Friday and Saturday night and maybe Hall Point Sulphur Creek Sunday night if the weather is kind. Also plan to be at the Rocky Cape Tavern free camp Feb 24th-25th for a CMCA meeting of the Devil Wheelers-Tasmania.

Check out Wings Wildlife Park behind Ulverstone, cheap camping beside river.

Barb, I've lived here for 15 years and still not seen half of what this island has to offer. Please, take your time and, don't be disappointed if you don't see everything everybody tells you about.

Enjoy what ever it is that you do. This island will not disappoint you I'm sure.

Want to spend 3 weeks from the middle of Feb in Tasmania in our caravan and taking our dog. We would like to stay in 3 caravan parks and do day trips from each one. Can anyone suggest 3 parks centred around the island that we would get maximum sight seeing in these 3 weeks.

Stanley Caravan Park and Longford Caravan Park and maybe Swansea. Northwest, north and East. Lots of other choices
