Messy Weber Q

So far Q has only been on verandah, it drips fat off the inside of the lid on the back, some onto the outside of bottom half and some onto mat on concrete below. Somewhat reluctant to take travelling, or mount as per the mad spray painter ( orange colorado indeed). can I be doing something wrong/, always preheat to the 250 c., but need to turn things and gut the snags for swmbo. cheers and thanks craig

Maybe you need to wipe the inside of the lid down once in while, especially the back edge, which gets greasier than the front.

Cheers, John.

If you stew food in a High Side pan in the Q you will get this effect.

Cook directly on the grill or low side trays & that problem goes away.

Here is a copy of Weber's answer to that exact question.....

Hi Kim - the most common cause of this is using a roasting pan for meats when cooking roasts.... if you do that, then the fats and juices from the meats sit in the pan, then boil up and splatter all over the inside of the lid which causes them to leak outside the unit. If you are using it correctly when roasting, i.e. using a convection on the grill then the trivet, and placing meats directly onto the trivet, this allows the excess juices to drop away and down through the holes in the convection tray. If you are doing this, then the other cause could be if you're NOT using the unit for normal barbecuing (and only roasting) then the unit may never get really hot and therefore burn off any excess moisture that can build up in the unit. It is true that even using under normal conditions that you will need to wipe down the lid and bowl semi regularly, but it's not needed that often under normal use.
If you've been dealing with someone at Weber customer service, and felt you didn't get the result you're after - please contact them again - I am really confident that we can help.
Cheers, Dave@WeberAustralia

Thanks, Will try the wipe over more often. I only cook on the supplied grill or plate, usually 50/50 style.
I would expect some mess when roasting, or spit roast, so thats ok.
cheers, Craig

I have the Baby Q and whilst the griddle cleans beautifully, it is nigh impossible to keep the rest of the bubble clean. I dont bother.

Hit it with BBQ cleaner then wash in Hot Water . Hot water and detergents to clean . Wipe with rag or paper wipes after use ..Empty fat tray after each use ..

Once you have used the Q enough, the coating inside the lid builds up and eventually bits start peeling off by itself. A few high heat cooks helps this process.

Cheers, John.

Trouble is, if you cook the Roast as per the Webber instructions how do you make the gravy tasty without all the pan drippings???

You need to use instant gravy , I find chicken in Webber make a loot of fat build up , Webber is hard to degrease on the road without leaving a mess behind .
